-For the beer market-
Yesterday, President Berisha, accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Genc Ruli, and the Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Albert Brojka, inspected the reconstruction works at the “Tirana” beer factory.
Welcomed by the general administrator of the Albanian-Italian company “Birra Tirana”, Mr. Roberto Miraglia, President Berisha was briefed on the progress of the works and the future prospects of this factory.
Reconstruction work on the factory began in August 1993 and is expected to be completed in September of this year. According to the investors, it will have a production capacity of 150 thousand hectoliters of beer, in line with the standards of the European Community.
Instead of attempts to obstruct the works, today the “Birra Tirana” factory produces 2,500 liters of “Pils” beer, using modern technology. Foreign investments are estimated at 6 million USD. This factory is currently the only one in Albania that guarantees hygienic conditions according to Western standards.
Later President Berisha visited the flour department, where reconstruction is being carried out by the Turkish company “Baf”. According to the company’s administrator, Mr. Mehmet Hallit, the project for this factory, which is being implemented with equipment and technology imported from Turkey, will cost 4.2 million USD. When completed, in June 1996, around 120 workers will be employed, with a production quality that meets the highest international standards.
Representatives of the company “Baf” guaranteed completion of the facility within the deadline set by the contract, as well as the employment of 120 Albanian specialists.
President Berisha emphasized the need to modernize the food industry in order to increase quality and competitiveness in the market, assessing that these investments represent an important step in the country’s economic development.
