NO INTERFERENCE: THE PD CANDIDATE LIST
Who are the PD candidates
Question from "RD": Will the parliamentary elections of 27 June be free, democratic, and with the participation of all political forces?
Answer from the President of the Republic:
They will be free and democratic. I do not believe there is any serious political force that thinks otherwise. The elections of 27 June will be monitored by several hundred foreign observers and hundreds of commissioners from the political parties. All the conditions for free and democratic elections are in place.
Question from "RD": What about the left-wing opposition, whose representatives claim that the political climate is not suitable?
Answer from the President of the Republic:
The political climate has been and is such that all political forces can take part in the elections. In a free society, everyone has the right to express their opinion. But no one has the right to impose their will in contradiction to democratic rules.
Question from "RD": Is there interference by the authorities in this campaign?
Answer from the President of the Republic:
Absolutely not. Power belongs not to a party, but to the state. The candidates are chosen by the party. That is its right. This is an internal matter of the party.
Question from "RD": What are the main criteria for selecting candidates?
Answer from the President of the Republic:
The main criterion is honesty, commitment to reforms, the support they enjoy among the electorate, and the ability to represent citizens with dignity.

STATEMENT BY THE ALBANIAN MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
On 22 May, the Italian and Greek press, commenting on developments in Albania, published the false news that Gjirokastra had been taken by force by the Greek army. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania declares that this news is entirely untrue and fabricated.
The Albanian armed forces are in their positions and on full alert for the defense of the country's territorial sovereignty. Any such speculation aims to damage the climate of calm and good-neighborly relations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania calls on public opinion and the foreign media not to fall prey to such disinformation.

Under these conditions, the author reflects on the nature of political debate, on the way the language of hatred is used, and on the need for higher democratic standards.
