Commenting on developments in Albanian-Greek relations in the context of Albania's independence and democracy, President of the Republic Berisha said yesterday that Greece and Greek public opinion should understand that a country's sovereignty, independence, and respect for the rule of law are just as important as human rights. He spoke about several events and phenomena that are highly harmful to our country and that, in his view, damage the spirit of understanding and cooperation with all neighboring countries. According to him, some circles in Greece have speculated on human rights by brutally interfering in Albania's internal affairs. Referring to public processes in the Albanian state, Berisha said that no one can manipulate Albanian justice or call the political processes so, while in their own country they refuse to describe such things in the same way. The President pointed out that nowhere in the world would it be tolerated for terrorist squads funded from abroad to be organized and operate on its territory and kill its citizens. Press conference of PDSH chairman Eduard Selami: THE VERDICT OF THE PEOPLE ANSWERED THOSE WHO ARE ASKING FOR EARLY ELECTIONS The two and most important points were: the substantial mandate that the citizens of PDSH gave us yesterday in the second round of local elections, with 70 deputies in all municipalities and 7 more municipalities won by PDSH compared with the first round. This clearly and unmistakably shows that the majority of Albanians support the program of the right-wing government and President Berisha, and the opposition's accusations of early elections are unrealistic. PDSH chairman Eduard Selami emphasized at a press conference that these elections brought a great victory and a heavy defeat for the opposition. Selami said that the citizens' vote for the government and President Berisha is a direct response to the opposition's demands for early elections. He valued as important the result in the areas of Mallakastra and Myzeqe where, according to him, the population voted for the first time for PDSH.
