From President Berisha's meetings with high-ranking figures in Budapest Mr. Chairman, Ladies and gentlemen, On behalf of Albania, I greet the high-level meeting of the CSCE in Budapest. Albania has supported and continues to support without any ambiguity the Helsinki process, the CSCE, and its transformation into the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. For us, as a small country, such an organization, built on the principles of full equality, respect for the national sovereignty of all member states, and non-interference in internal affairs, has been and remains an irreplaceable forum for building a new order of peace and security on our continent. In particular, Albania has faithfully adhered to and has seriously implemented the documents and commitments stemming from this institution. We greatly value the positive role the CSCE has played in preventing conflicts and in promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms. We are convinced that without full respect for these principles there can be no lasting stability in Europe. Albania strongly supports the democratization of international relations and the strengthening of mechanisms for the peaceful resolution of conflicts. My country has gone through a difficult period of transition, but it has achieved notable successes in building democratic institutions, a market economy, and guaranteeing political freedoms. We are determined to continue along this path. Albania is directly interested in peace and stability in the Balkans. We believe that all problems in the region must be solved by peaceful means, through dialogue and respect for the rights of all peoples. In this context, I wish to emphasize once again the importance of respecting the rights of Albanians wherever they live, as an important factor for stability and peace in the region. Albania will continue to contribute to European integration processes and regional cooperation. Thank you.
