The biggest challenge is to make Albania a prosperous and civilized country

INTERVIEW WITH THE PDSH AND SENT SALI AND OUR PRIME MINISTER LICONI WE ASK: - You said at the press conference held two days ago that preparations will continue intensively until the parliamentary elections. Why is the PDSH convinced of its victory? ANSWER: - I believe that has become completely clear. Briefly and plainly: we have won the confidence of the majority of Albanian citizens, and we believe that in a democratic country the will of the majority is decisive. WE ASK: - In your opinion, what are the main reasons for this success and trust over these years? ANSWER: - We have won the trust of Albanians by being determined to bring change, by speaking the language of truth, and by being close to their troubles. We have properly valued people's sacrifice and have sought to build stable institutions. WE ASK: - A part of public opinion believes there are still major economic and social difficulties. How do you assess them? ANSWER: - Of course the difficulties are great. Albania emerged from a ruined system. But for the first time we have freedom, we have pluralism, we have a market economy, and we have begun rebuilding the state. The greatest challenge is to make Albania a prosperous and civilized country. WE ASK: - What do you expect from the opposition? ANSWER: - To behave like a democratic opposition, to contribute to parliamentary life, and to abandon boycott and the rhetoric of conflict. WE ASK: - What is your message to Albanians? ANSWER: - To have faith in the future, to work honestly and patiently, and not to fall prey to demagoguery. Only through work and law will Albania move forward. ( continued on page 6 )

Today is December 8

Today, on December 8, 4 years ago, in the "Student City" precisely that long-awaited movement for all Albanians was crowned, with its founding motto, "we want Albania like all Europe". The incomplete and anxious alliance of students with university professors and Albanian intellectuals, especially with the opposition political class, began with the rapid formation of the Democratic Party. Its creation made it possible to establish a pluralist political system, the elimination of "Article 3" of the communist constitution, the overthrow of the dictatorship, the beginning of a comprehensive process of decommunization of the country, the free movement of people and ideas, and the beginning of the market economy. Of course, like all great and long-term processes, the Albanian democratic movement was neither able nor could it achieve its own goals according to propaganda slogans and formulations. For 4 years of democratic revolution we, MEPJSh Albanians, have learned to do politics with democracy as a process and not as a presidential pose, we have learned to deal with the political opponent as a partner and not as an enemy, we have learned that the state is not the property of one political force but an institution at the service of everyone, we have learned that the free vote is not naivety but citizenship, we have learned that idealizing one side and demonizing the other is likewise not politics. We have learned to endure the freedom of the press, trade union protests, free movement, and foreign penetration as unavoidable costs of democracy. We have learned not to expect miracles from reforms, but to understand that they are a process. We have learned to distinguish between the spirit of change and the nostalgia for the old order. This day remains one of the symbolic dates of the beginning of pluralism and the fall of the political monopoly. ( continued on page 4 )
