Chronicle of the week's political events
Monday, 12 December
4 years after constructive opposition. 4 years after the anticommunist slogan on a broad scale. 4 years after the slander of the communist state and its propaganda by the PPSH. 90-odd years after the dictator’s birth. From Vlora comes the news that the city’s oldest resident has passed away at the age of 90-something. Below, our journalist writes that: "It was he who made life troublesome for Comrade Enver with the unpleasant question: hey, when are you going to die?". A group of school pupils, on the teacher’s orders, went and placed flowers at the monument of the commander and for a moment said: "Long live Comrade Enver". In memory of 17 December 1990, meetings and discussions were held in many schools and workplaces. TUESDAY, 13 DECEMBER The chairman of the Youth Forum of the Democratic Party, Mr. Arben Imami, stated to the press that Albanian youth does not feel represented by the old political institutions and is seeking new spaces for participation. In many cities across the country, various activities were held on the occasion of the anniversary of the student movement. WEDNESDAY, 14 DECEMBER The chairman of the PDSH, Mr. Eduard Selami, carried out a working visit to Berat, where he met with activists and party members. He emphasized the importance of expanding the electoral base and strengthening local structures. THURSDAY, 15 DECEMBER An agreement on cooperation was signed between several youth organizations and independent civic forums. To minimize consumption, strict administrative and punitive measures will be taken. In this case there are specific criminal individuals, but also with the help of certain circumstances created by the lack of control, they have managed to a certain degree to organize entire networks to steal electric power. Seeing the situation created in the supply of electric power and the need to ensure conditions for its stabilization, the Albanian government decided to declare a state of energy emergency in the country. The Minister of Economy, Mr. Genc Ruli, stated that this is a measure forced by the circumstances and that the main goal is the economical and disciplined use of energy. He emphasized that losses in the network and abuses have caused serious consequences for the economy. The measures include detailed inspection of consumers, cutoffs of electricity for large debtors, and criminal proceedings for theft. It was also announced that thousands of illegal connections have been identified and that control teams will carry out their activities throughout the country.
