TO THE BELIEVERS of all communities and of the whole nation, Christmas is arriving in a very special and highly meaningful situation. For our whole country, this is a beautiful day, because in the broadest sense and dimensions a full sharing of government and a complete democratization of social and state life are being realized in Albania.
In this sense, the greeting for this holiday is addressed not only to Christians, but to all Albanians, who with understanding, tolerance and a desire for peace and prosperity experience this day as a sign of hope and rapprochement.
In the current conditions, Christmas takes on a special meaning for the nation and for Albanian democracy.
Let this greeting reach every Albanian home.

On the occasion of Christmas
Those present today in Parliament and PD-SH, representatives of the branch and its representatives in the country’s capital
Tirana, in February, during several meetings, in conversations and in greetings for this great holiday, the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, emphasized the importance of this day in the spiritual and social life of the country.
He pointed out that Albania is entering a new stage of democratization and civic coexistence, where respect for faith and religious freedom is part of the new democratic culture.
The President extended greetings to all Christian believers, expressing his belief that this holiday will serve for greater peace, prosperity and understanding among Albanians.

The Democratic Party — a party of hope for Albanians
Throughout this entire period, the Democratic Party has been in continuous activity. Up to these days it has held meetings in various districts of the country and has made ongoing efforts to organize and strengthen its structures.
Within this framework, talks and contacts have been held with the base, where the most acute problems of the country’s political and social life have been addressed.
According to its leaders, the PD remains the main force of hope for Albanian citizens.
President of the Republic Sali Berisha exercises his power of pardon and sentence reduction

In accordance with Article 28, paragraph 13 of constitutional law No. 7491 dated 29.4.1991 “On the Main Constitutional Provisions,” the President of the Republic has decreed a pardon or sentence reduction for 15 convicts.
Under this authority, the President of the Republic has reviewed the requests submitted by the convicts and their family members and, after obtaining the opinion of the judicial bodies, has decided to grant pardons or sentence reductions in specific cases.
This act is part of the constitutional powers of the Head of State and is exercised in respect of the law.
