Happy 1995
Dear readers,
On the eve of the turn of the year, I feel it is my duty to wish you from the heart a Happy New Year. Undoubtedly, with us are and will remain clear all the difficulties we have faced and are still facing. But truly, the year we are leaving behind is the year of the return of hope and perspective for a large number of people, who feel that they are now walking on the right path toward a better life.
The concerns that we will always take into account in this period, but also in the future, are at the same time commitments of the democratic government for the well-being of Albanians. The year 1994, which we are leaving behind, will be remembered as the year of economic growth, of increased employment, of reduced inflation, of the stabilization of the lek, of the continued expansion of Albania's cooperation with the world.
But we are all conscious that we are taking the first steps and that this long road, traveled with effort and sacrifice, can be made shorter and less difficult by our dedicated work and commitment to stability, order, calm, understanding and tolerance.
Expressing our faith in the values of the free human being, of democratic and Western Albania, I wish you once again prosperity, abundance and family well-being for the year 1995.

XVII. 1994 President Clinton telecommunicates to Sali Berisha his heartfelt greetings and welcomes the success achieved by the reform program undertaken
Dear President Berisha,
On the occasion of New Year 1995, I wish to convey my heartfelt greetings to you and to all citizens of Albania. The Government of the United States and the American people enthusiastically supported the Albanian people's decision to transform its economy and political system, and we have closely followed the steady progress during 1994.
The energetic implementation by your government of market-based economic reforms has put Albania on the road to economic recovery. In particular, your macroeconomic program with the support of the IMF and the World Bank has proved successful in drastically reducing inflation, in economic growth and in an expanding private sector. The United States also values your efforts to build an Albanian democratic system with democratic political institutions, as well as your commitment to building positive relations with your neighbors. We will continue to support you in your efforts to further expand the private sector, strengthen the banking system, reform the Civil Code and the Penal Code, restore property, modernize the public administration, and administer a modern democratic system. The United States understands that these reforms are difficult and require time, but we are encouraged by your commitment and by the achievements to date. You will continue to enjoy the support of the United States for these reforms.
Sincerely,
William J. Clinton
President of the United States
The Italian Ambassador Mr. Paolo Foresti wishes the Albanians a prosperous year
-Greetings in Italian with autograph-
During the joyful celebrations of a New Year, let us continue firmly on the path of change and move forward together in understanding.
The year 1994 marked the relations between Italy and Albania in a particularly positive way. Strongly tied to this country for professional and sentimental reasons, I wish to especially recall President Berisha's State visit to Italy, which gave further impetus to bilateral dialogue and cooperation.
It was this strengthened cooperation between Italy and Albania that made it possible to face with discretion and determination the whole challenge of the Albanian exoduses, such as those of August, thanks to the serious and ongoing contribution of the Albanian government.
We hope to continue in the same direction, because we feel a shared belief in the universal values of democracy, and certainly the need for economic and social progress under discussion.
