Then the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, Sali Berisha, spoke. Among other things in his speech he said:
Distinguished officers of the Skenderbej Military Academy
Distinguished guests
It is a particular pleasure to greet you today on this solemn day for the entire Albanian army at the opening of the Academy, which will perfect, develop and consolidate the finest traditions of the Albanian army that have existed for a long time. The opening of the Academy today also marks a major achievement of Albanian military education, especially in its final detachment from the principles and the unnecessary and harmful politicization. The closing of the academy is an act of necessity. Military education had been politicized and influenced by the Marxist-Leninist doctrine, deprived of a totalitarian and extremely harmful doctrine for the army, for society, for Albania and for all the countries that experienced it.
The opening of the Academy could not have happened earlier. This day comes as a natural result of the democratic developments in our country over these 4 years. Our armed forces undertook comprehensive and successful reforms during this period. First of all, they established

French Ambassador in Tirana, Louis Dominici
"President Berisha has not asked to make a visit to France, and it is clear that there has been no negative response."
:
"President Berisha has not asked to make a visit to France, and it is clear that there has been no negative response.
Naturally, he is always welcome in France, where we hold him in the highest esteem and friendship.
You know that President Berisha has been to France twice since his election. His last visit was very long overdue. It took place on 8 May 1995. On that occasion, President Berisha met Mr. Jacques CHIRAC, who had just been elected President of the French Republic".
P. 2 Interview with Mr. Dominici
October 3, Germany’s National Holiday, but also a celebration of civilization
October 3,
Germany’s
National Holiday,
but also a celebration of
civilization
Germany’s National Holiday is also a holiday for Albanians. Because Albanians and Germans are bound by feelings of deep and traditional friendship, by a feeling of special respect for culture, knowledge, language, moral and spiritual values, and by the regard for everything that the Germans have done for Albania and for the Albanians, for our culture and language.
Germany won peace. Yesterday marked five years since the day the Berlin Wall fell, the great postwar symbol was brought down, the ghost of the monster threatening peoples, which had accompanied the Cold War for forty-five years, faded away, retreated into its den of darkness to utter its last gasp there. The unification of Germany was first and foremost a victory of the German people, a victory of that distinguished people who has left indelible traces in European culture and science, in philosophical and progressive thought, thus becoming a vanguard of human thought, of progress and civilization as a whole.
The Germans celebrate the day of reunification as a National Holiday. But at the same time, along with the Germans, all progressive, democratic and peace-loving forces celebrate this day as well, distinguished people who have dedicated their life and work to progress, civilization, humanism and mutual understanding among people. They celebrate this day because it is also a symbolic day of the victory of good over evil, of justice over injustice, of democracy over violence, of peace over the threat of destructive war.
Fortunately, this reunification of the Germans was achieved peacefully, putting an end to an absurd wall, to the barbed-wire fence that had divided the Germans into two different states, to the violence and dictatorship of the Eastern model, which had caused so much suffering and spiritual, physical and economic misery to the Germans beyond the border. Fortunately, this reunification took place differently from what the Albanian Bolsheviks at the top of the pyramid had predicted, those who cried out in terror that the reunification of the two Germanys was the beginning of a third world war. In fact, this reunification was the threshold of the collapse of the dictatorships in the countries of the East, and also of the dictatorship in Albania. The Albanian people, who suffered so much misery and experienced so many misfortunes and destructions under dictatorship, experience this great event with joy and hope, and deep in its soul the powerful dream awakens that soon the Albanians too will regain their lost freedom, that soon they will cut the barbed wires that had locked them in a cage, thus also interrupting, among other things, the traditional friendship with the German people, for whom it feels deep sympathy and to whom it is grateful for everything that has been done for Albania and the Albanians, for the Albanian language and culture.
Germany’s National Holiday is, meanwhile, also a holiday for Albanians. Because Germans and Albanians are bound by feelings of sincere and traditional friendship, by a feeling of special respect for culture, knowledge, language, moral and spiritual values. On this solemn day Albanians keep the German people in their hearts and express to them the feeling of sincere friendship and deep gratitude.
