Dr. Sali Berisha expressed his pleasure at this visit, through which representatives of important American institutions are becoming closely acquainted with Albania and the dynamics of its development. President Berisha particularly dwelt on the progress our country has made in its democratic transformation. President Berisha thanked Senator Dole for the interest shown in Albania, for the treatment of the Albanian issue in the UN Security Council, and for his role in lifting the embargo on the republics of the former Yugoslavia that were attacked militarily by Serbia. President Berisha also informed the American delegation that Albania never aims to use violence against its neighbors, but to resolve the Albanian question as a whole through peaceful means. Regarding the US position on the Kosovo issue, he said that more and more, in American official circles, the view is gaining ground that “Kosovo Republic” is the only realistic and sustainable solution in the region. American official Holibrik said that he supports the creation of economic, trade and cultural relations between Albania and Wisconsin.
