President Berisha: “A notable event in the history of the education of Albanians”

The academic year began at the University of Gjirokastër “Eqerem Çabej” Yesterday in the People's Assembly Alish Dragoši is becoming deleteve Albanian and Croatian officials before the President The President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, took part yesterday in the inauguration and opening of the work of the pedagogical university “Eqerem Çabej” in Gjirokastër. Sali Berisha told the students and faculty that the University of Gjirokastër reflects a vital need of Albanian education, which will radiate from the south toward the north. Also present at the ceremony establishing the university were the Speaker of the People's Assembly, Dr. Pjetër Arbnori, and ministers. The President: The creation of this university is a notable event in the history of our national education and culture. I express my satisfaction that, as we inaugurate two faculties of the universities, two of the strongest premises for the development of a country are being put into action in their foundation: education and culture. A nation that does not look far ahead for the development of universities, that does not measure its aspirations through the schooling and education of generations, does not build the future. He stated that the young Albanian generation is the most educated generation the country's history has known and deserves more room. The President said that this event is especially important because it is taking place in Gjirokastër, a city with a rich educational and cultural tradition. The President emphasized that the university bears the name of the distinguished linguist Eqerem Çabej, honoring a great figure of Albanian culture. The President underlined that this university will make a valuable contribution to the training of future teachers and specialists. The President added that the development of higher education is a fundamental condition for the modernization of the country. The President called for full support for the new university. The President wished the students and faculty success for the start of the new academic year. President Berisha stressed that the opening of the university is proof of the state's commitment to knowledge and culture.

Arbnori: “The law protects Pjetër Arbnori, while newspapers with such pretexts want to sell themselves”

Interview with Mr. Pjetër Arbnori and the “RD” journalist, Sejfulla Shehu Arbnori: Some newspapers, such as “Koha Jonë”, are dying to sell copies by slandering my name and my family. Question: Do you think that in Albania there are efforts to target political figures? Answer: I think so. In particular, all kinds of speculations are circulating in order to smear public figures. When they have no facts, they invent stories. Question: Does this have anything to do with the political debates of the time? Answer: Yes, because when they cannot win with arguments, they attack with slander. These are old methods. Question: What position will you take? Answer: I will turn to the competent authorities and defend my honor. The law exists to protect the citizen. Question: How do you see the role of the press? Answer: The press must be free, but also responsible. Slander cannot be called freedom. Question: Does this affect family life? Answer: Of course it does, but my family knows these attacks and withstands them. Question: What message do you have for readers? Answer: Not to fall prey to false sensationalism.
