For over 120,000 years the friendship between President Berisha and President Herzog has lasted, said yesterday in Bonn, at the joint press conference of the two presidents.
Mr. Sali Berisha emphasized that the visit of President Herzog to Albania, which is taking place these days, has been an event of particular importance in the history of relations between the two countries. He valued the hospitality and the great interest of the German authorities in the progress of democratic and economic reforms in Albania.
President Berisha underlined that Albanians consider Germany a friendly country and an important partner in the process of integrating the country into European institutions. He said that Germany has been and remains a strong supporter of Albania’s efforts to consolidate democracy, the rule of law and the market economy.
In his speech, German President Roman Herzog stated that Germany is and will be Albania's advocate. He said that Germany supports Albania’s admission to the Council of Europe and its association agreement with the European Union.
President Herzog emphasized that noticeable progress has been made in Albania and that the country deserves support on the path of reforms. He valued President Berisha’s role in the democratic processes and in the country’s stability.
Berisha said that from this hospitality Albanians want to have only one benefit: the development and consolidation of democracy in Albania and their integration into Europe.

Ladies and gentlemen, I just want to say a few words about the crisis that has now arisen in Greece. The situation in that country as a whole is an internal matter of Greece and we do not want to interfere. But I want to emphasize that stability in this region is of particular importance for Europe.
In addition, President Herzog praised the good relations between Germany and Albania and expressed his country's readiness to support reforms in Albania.

German President, Prof. Dr. Roman Herzog, received the title of “Honorary Citizen” in Kavaja yesterday at a special ceremony. This recognition was given in appreciation of his contribution in support of democratic processes in Albania and for his friendship with the Albanian people.
