From the Benat of Krrerës to the PS during the dictatorship Many of the students from the Faculty of Economics, on the occasion of the appointment of Dr. Xhezair Ismaili as dean of this faculty, may remember many of their years of study at this faculty. We have such memories not only of Dr. Xhezair Ismaili, but also of several other lecturers of this faculty. Likewise, of several outstanding students with whom we spent very beautiful years. Among them I single out Xhelal Mëhilli, who, although he came from a family with a “bad biography,” stood out as an excellent student with a solid education. Xhelal was one of those students whom every lecturer wanted in the classroom. But the surprise was that, regarding this excellent student, some of the lecturers, including Servet Pëllumbi, did not speak well of him. When I later learned that this student had serious problems with the regime, I better understood some of the senseless attitudes of that time. One of these related to Servet Pëllumbi's behavior toward him. On one occasion, when the student had asked a question in the classroom, Pëllumbi's reaction had been extremely harsh. This made an impression on everyone. Later, when his arrest was discussed, it was learned that “information” and “assessments” had also been used against him, coming from people in the faculty. P. S., the connection of this story with a former student and its revelation by Servet Pëllumbi is special. It is also special why the publication of this story is happening precisely now. Asked about this matter, some faculty colleagues stated that “it is time for the truth to come out about those who, in the name of career, collaborated with a system that damaged many human lives.” In a document drawn from the archives, it is stated that Servet Pëllumbi had a role in drafting a character reference for the student Xhelal Mëhilli, which was later used in the investigation materials. According to the testimonies, this reference contained political and not academic evaluations. This makes the matter even more serious, because it came from a lecturer who was supposed to protect his student. The full article is published in the next issue

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the victory over Nazifascism Today, at the highest legislative forum in Russia, the Duma, efforts are under way to implement the agreement of the Russian president Boris Yeltsin with his communist opponents. In order to hold a joint celebration in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Allies' victory over Nazifascism, the leaders of 52 states and the prime ministers of another 55 countries have been invited to the Kremlin. This is the largest international gathering ever organized in Moscow. US President Bill Clinton, German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, British Prime Minister John Major, French President François Mitterrand and UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali arrived in Moscow yesterday. As yesterday, in the premises of the Russian Federation, a reception was organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the victory over Nazifascism. This reception was attended by high personalities of Albanian political life, representatives of political parties, foreign ambassadors and diplomats, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps in Tirana. Also taking part in this reception were the President of the Republic, the Chairman of the People's Assembly, the Prime Minister and ministers of the government cabinet. Representatives of cultural and social institutions were also present. Later, a cocktail was held at the embassy, where those present offered congratulations for this anniversary and talked about bilateral relations between Albania and the Russian Federation.
