Pilgrims from all over Albania at the Church of Shen Ndout are engaged in traditional observance

Seven days before 13 June 1995, numerous worshippers had arrived at the Church of Shen Ndout to take part in the annual spiritual services, to express their faith in the saint, to ask for help or forgiveness, to light candles and to pray. On this day, according to an old tradition, pilgrims from all regions of the country gather in Laç. From the early morning hours, the roads to the church had been filled with people. Old and young alike, men, women and children, carried symbolic gifts and prayed. Some went barefoot, while others held candles and holy images in their hands. Inside the church and around it, people performed various rites according to popular belief. Street vendors offered candles, religious figures and other items. The atmosphere was charged with emotion, while the priests called on the faithful to remain calm and orderly. This is a familiar sight at this pilgrimage site, where thousands of people from all over Albania gather every year.

Dritëro Agolli in Saranda declares: “The PS will nationalize enterprises tomorrow in order to re-privatize them”

(Published on 10 June '95) Described by some as a pocket agent, “The Herald of Democracy” sabotaged Tirana’s campaign. If this is true, it loses the value of “market gossip.” This would make it possible to leave that “testament” of the man from Saranda, the former deputy chairman of the PPSH and its outgoing deputy. It is precisely around this “testament” that the noise of a “democracy” that cannot even correct its own language is revolving. Agolli has said that “the PS, if it comes to power, will nationalize enterprises in order to re-privatize them.” This statement, made during the campaign, has been used by his opponents as proof of the unclear nature of the PS economic program. In this context, various commentators have also revisited the role of former communists and the continuity of the PPSH in Albanian political life.

The speech of the President of the Republic Sali Berisha on the occasion of the day of the pilgrimage at the Church of Shen Ndues

Honored Bishop rok Mirdita, Honored Father Zef Pllumi, Dear Christian and Muslim believers, Three has been and continues to be the great message of the wisdom of our people, which expresses solidarity and brotherhood on the solemn day of Shna Ndout. The message of unity in God and in one another, the message of human love and mutual respect, the message of peace and understanding. On this blessed day, Albanians once again show that freedom of belief is an inseparable part of human freedom and that religious tolerance remains one of our most precious national values. Let this day be a call for more kindness, more hope, and more responsibility toward one another and toward our country.

The victors return as the defeated

Within one month With 16% of the vote, Berisha has been overturned as at least the last five hundred local ones end up permanently defeated -The left Albanian sacrificed in permanent silence Within one month The victors return as the defeated With 16% of the vote, Berisha has been overturned as at least the last five hundred local ones end up permanently defeated -The left Albanian sacrificed in permanent silence It seems that the left-wing opposition is trying to interpret the electoral results in its favor, speaking of a change in the political climate. However, an analysis of the figures shows a more complicated picture. In some local units, yesterday’s winners have lost ground, while the losers have benefited from the fragmentation of the vote. This has led to partial reversals at the local level. Commentators link this development to the new electoral strategies and to the political polarization of the time.
