Visit of the DP of Albania delegation to Greece Press conference by the Secretary General of the DP of Albania, Mr. Tritan Shehu, its Deputy Chairman and Chairman of its parliamentary group, Mr. Ali Spahia, and MP Mr. Dhimiter Anagnosti In this context, our cooperation with PASOK, which is the largest Greek party and also the party in power, is undoubtedly included. We are both parties in power, and undoubtedly we have shared interests in working so that our governments can establish the best possible relations with one another. I would like to emphasize that this absolutely does not mean that the DP is moving to the left with this act, nor should it have implications for such a move within Albania. First, I want to point out that there is a very great difference, with distinctions of a fundamental nature, between the Greek left-wing forces, such as PASOK, and the Albanian left. In this context, it should be underlined that while PASOK was the party that fought to overthrow the dictatorship in Greece and was one of the leading forces in the struggle against dictatorship, in Albania, by contrast, the Albanian left-wing forces are a product of the dictatorship and its continuation. Therefore, no comparison can be made between the Albanian left and the Greek left. Yesterday President Berisha held a one-on-one conversation with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Bin Mohamed, which lasted more than an hour. President Berisha welcomed the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Albania and expressed his pleasure at the friendly development of relations between our two countries. He familiarized the Malaysian guest with the results of the reforms in our country. The conversation focused on cooperation between Albania and Malaysia, and both interlocutors stressed that the very good level achieved in political relations should be matched by fruitful cooperation in all fields. In this context, cooperation was discussed in sectors of mutual interest such as tourism, industry, mining, banking, textiles, etc. President Berisha warmly thanked the Malaysian Prime Minister for the Malaysian loan for construction, noting that construction sites are now ready for the projects to begin, as well as for the valuable assistance of this country to the Albanian people. The two statesmen also discussed the situation in the region and the conflict in Bosnia. President Berisha stressed that the recent failures of the International Community in Bosnia had made the conflict there more dangerous and Karadzic's Serbs more reckless and aggressive, and that the situation in Kosovo continued to remain grave. The Malaysian Prime Minister, having expressed his pleasure at the significant changes he observed during his second visit to Albania, stressed his and the Malaysian government's determination to strengthen friendship and expand cooperation with Albania. Regarding developments in our region, the Malaysian Prime Minister said that Malaysia was concerned about the conflict in Bosnia and had peacekeeping troops there. President Berisha and Prime Minister Mohathir agreed that the presence of UN troops in Bosnia was essential, and that UNPROFOR's withdrawal from there would be dangerous and would have consequences for the region. During the meeting with the chairman of the New Democracy parliamentary group, as well as during the meeting with the relevant delegation of this Party, the necessity of concrete cooperation between our two political forces, in the interest of friendship between our countries, was expressed. Yesterday afternoon Prime Minister Aleksander Meksi met with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Bin Mohamed. Mr. Meksi emphasized the Albanian government's readiness to move forward with the implementation of projects in housing construction, as well as in trade, banking, textiles, and tourism. “Our interest in supporting the projects and creating the necessary conditions for their implementation is maximal,” Prime Minister Meksi stressed. He also pointed out the importance the Albanian government attaches to learning from Malaysia's experience and exchanging contacts, particularly in the field of business. For his part, the Malaysian Prime Minister said that our bilateral contacts had been institutionalized and that exchanges of bilateral visits should now be translated into concrete cooperation in areas such as housing construction, opening banks, mining, and tourism. “But at the same time,” Mr. Mohamed said, “we are looking at what we can buy from you, especially considering your underground resources.” Both sides described cooperation in industry as important, highlighting Albania's advantages in exporting to European countries. SAMI MILLOSHI Having shown no scruples in their attacks on the strengthening of the rule of law, the anonymous pens of ZP yesterday also came out in defense of a terrorist act: the hostage-taking of two state administration officials by the strikers in the village of Lakanas. They not only aspire to bring back their “golden” era, but also fight for it, when cannibalistic subjectivism and the mechanism of class struggle wreaked havoc. But that time has now well and truly passed. The time of genocide and inhuman terror is over. The time has come to expose the machinery of that terrible genocide, as well as those who, although today they hide like ostriches, bear responsibility for setting the machinery of genocide in motion. The defenders of terrorism and terrorist acts today are the very same group as those of yesterday’s genocide. They will find it difficult to escape justice, however much they hide. Therefore, you wretched anonymous writers of “ZP,” who serve as tools in the hands of the architects of yesterday’s crimes and defenders of today’s terrorism, give up your black ink and cleanse your souls.

The initiative by intellectuals to publish documents on the genocide that Enver Hoxha and his successors perpetrated against Albanians for 50 years, although very late, is very important and beneficial. Two years ago, the anti-communist association 2 Prilli took a similar initiative, which remained an attempt. It is in the nation's interest that the crimes be documented and accompanied by legal punitive measures against those responsible for them. Albania and the democratic state need national reconciliation, which will bring about national sincerity. We not only support the intellectuals’ initiative, but also call on all genuine democratic forces, states and individuals, setting aside personal interests in favor of the nation's interests, not to forget and to support this undertaking with the facts. CEKA: The creation of such groups sometimes reminds me of the open letters that used to be written on cooperativist-style initiatives for the complete collectivization of livestock. “Expose Enverist genocide and stop communist propaganda” was the appeal issued a few days ago by 33 intellectuals through the mass media, once again recalling the horrors of half a century under one of the most brutal dictatorships known to human history. It is entirely normal for such an initiative to be attacked by criminals, the perpetrators of genocide, and servants of the dictatorship. “Political mercenaries” is what the newspaper that defends Enverist genocide calls the 33 intellectuals, whose voice is joined by an entire people who have suffered and been imprisoned by communism. “An initiative of the cooperativist type,” N. Ceka shamelessly says, having exposed himself as R. Alia’s servant at the historic moment when the dictatorship fell. Ceka fiercely opposes the 33 anti-communist intellectuals in an interview of his, a model for the Marxist Pellumbi. I am convinced that the Investment Conference in Tirana will be an important opportunity for the business world to come into contact with the transformed reality of Albania and to identify projects for financial support from the G-24 countries and other donors around the world.
