400 million dollars are cut from Albania's external debt

What was written in the daily press and in the reports of many foreign and domestic organizations on the Albanian economy, as it is being covered by the growth in production, is also confirmed by the figure for foreign credit. Only thanks to the good performance of the Albanian economy have the creditors agreed to forgive about 400 million dollars of Albania's external debt. This was announced yesterday by the Minister of Finance, Blerim Çela, at a press conference organized specifically for this issue. According to him, the official figure for the external debt of the Albanian state stood at the end of last year at 680 million dollars. After a long negotiation with the creditors, this amount was initially reduced to 380 million dollars. But, as the minister noted, the Albanian government does not intend to repay even this amount, as it is making efforts for the creditors to forgive the remaining part as well. Referring to the figures for 1992, when Albania's external debt reached 750 million dollars, its reduction represents a major success for the government and the Albanian economy. Blerim Çela said that the economic policy pursued by the Albanian government during these years of transition has produced visible results in reducing the budget deficit, controlling inflation and increasing production. According to him, this has led international financial institutions and creditor countries to be more willing to renegotiate the terms of Albania's external debt. He added that current payments for debt servicing are still unaffordable for the Albanian economy, so the government is seeking more favorable solutions. Despite the significant reduction in debt, the minister stressed that economic reforms must continue at the same pace, so that Albania can preserve macroeconomic stability and further improve the living conditions of the population. He pointed out that every success in this direction will directly affect the confidence of creditors and foreign investors in our country.

A day of mourning for the newspapers of the far left

400 million dollars are forgiven to Albania America, as far as the people are concerned, yes; the Albanians, no! It has also become clear that “The economic policy of our government has made it possible for 400 million dollars to be forgiven from Albania's external debt.” “These are achievements of the Albanian economy, therefore they must be valued without political prejudice,” declared the Minister of Finance. The article continues with polemical tones against left-wing newspapers, which according to the author either remain silent about or distort this important economic news. The commentary emphasizes that the left-wing opposition is trying to present the government's successes as failures, while the public needs accurate information and not manipulation. The article uses harsh political language and presents the debt forgiveness as proof of international confidence in the reforms undertaken in Albania.
