PS must sever hands and feet from the chains of heritage

XHEVAT MUSTAFA The former organ and self-proclaimed highest organ of the communist press, “Zëri i popullit,” together with “Rilindja” and “Bashkimi,” as the official organs of the PPSH and the Democratic Front, only on 29 November gave the appearance of the “celebration” with strong totalitarian, nostalgic, official and party colors. In fact, these three long media outlets were also telling in that, before 28 November, they were “cold,” “official” and “modest” toward the day that marked Independence Day for Albania and all Albanians. Even during 28 November, the Socialist Party organ “Zëri i popullit” had no such meaningful political and emotional line about this national holiday. Instead, on 29 November it would put in the foreground before readers “Deepening of reforms” and “The successes of [?-].” Only the next day, ashamed by the delay and prejudice, this organ remembered that 28 November had also existed. But by then, it was too late. This once again shows that the PS still has not broken away from certain thick ideological and emotional links with the past. It continues to carry on its shoulders the burden of 29 November and the old symbolism. Instead of freeing itself from them, it finds it difficult to confront its own history. This is also why many of its statements sound divided, unclear, and conditioned by heritage.

Defeat of early solutions

SAMI MILOSHI After failing to win a vote of confidence, the Albanian government has, for 28 months in a row, played the parliamentary game. Today it has boycotted it. It seems they no longer know what to do. An opposition that has been left without credible “arguments” before public opinion, detached and isolated from the world, that no longer has convincing alternatives to throw the country into the adventure of rebellion against democratization, is forced to settle on an artificial maneuver under the slogan of “early elections.” All along, it has spoken to public opinion seeking to “unmask” before the international factor and public opinion the “farce” of the local elections. So the PS's main aim has always been the denigration of Albania's democratic standards. But since these efforts failed, today the PS is trying to verify what real “power” it has when it attempts to organize extra-parliamentary protests. That is the answer to the Socialists' so-called “political action.” Come on now, finally the PS is boycotting these parliaments and trying to organize protests against the government. It is clear that in this campaign it also seeks to involve the “independent unions,” which in fact are entirely politically colored by the Socialist Party. Soon it will be seen how much real strength this opposition has. “No violence, no boycott, no [?-]” continues to be the message coming from the world. That is all. Finally.

The Albanian government forgot the draft agreement on the seasonal employment of Albanian workers in Greece

For the Greek side, this issue remains important for regulating employment flows. From the Albanian side there have been delays and a lack of interest, which has created difficulties for seasonal workers. The absence of a clear legal framework leaves them unprotected and exposed to abuse. The agreement would help legalize their movement and create safer working conditions.

The PS has no alternative

LAZER STANI It is promised to the PS. We are convinced that Albanians will not confuse democratic governance with socialist governance. The former offer reform, change, and a European future; the latter, obstruction, nostalgia, and a return to the past. The opposition is trying to exploit every difficulty of the transition to create an atmosphere of distrust. But citizens already know the difference. They have seen where isolation and propaganda lead. Democracy has its own difficulties, but it is the only way forward. Therefore, the PS has no real alternative for the country.
