The PD's program is a program of success
From President Berisha's meetings with residents of the villages of Durrës
In the four years ahead, the PD guarantees:
- Consolidation of private property.
- Ownership rights for the hundreds of thousands who still do not own property.
- The return of a year of strong credit lending, especially for farmers.
- Much greater investment in infrastructure.
- Pension crisis policy will be constant.
In the towns of Shijak and Rubjekë, President Berisha said that Albania is now flourishing, moving forward, prospering. The path of development it has chosen is the path of a country with free initiative. He said that Albania emerged successfully from the turmoil of 1991, from inflation and widespread shortages. According to him, the country has today managed to establish macroeconomic stability, increase production and boost investment. The President focused especially on the countryside and on improving the life of the farmer. He promised that the government and the Democratic Party would continue to support agriculture, agricultural machinery, the irrigation and drainage system, as well as the construction of rural roads. He said that the Albanian farmer is now the owner of his own land and must become increasingly economically stronger. Speaking about political opponents, Berisha declared that they have no other alternative except blocking progress and turning back. According to him, the PD's program is the program of success, the program of moving forward, the program of Albania's integration into Europe. Many residents of the area took part in the meeting, expressing support for the Democratic Party and calling for more investment in water supply, electricity and social services.
Support for the Democratic Party
50 German ideologues at the inaugural assembly of the Council of Europe in Albania
If German Chancellor Helmut Kohl were to come for a visit today, he would undoubtedly stop by the Christian Democratic Foundation "Konrad Adenauer", said yesterday during his meeting with representatives of this foundation the chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha. This is part of a multidimensional activity of the PDSH, which has been under way for 5 years in cooperation with assemblies, representatives of ideologies and center-right forces in Europe. Therefore, although the time has not been long, at least 4,000-5,000 experts have been qualified, trained and taught by international democratic experience. The current market of goods, Berisha says, offers very few elements of a market economy through which center-right parties also draw breath. Nevertheless, the ruling party of Albania has done much in this regard and will do even more. Under the care of the "Konrad Adenauer" Foundation and the Women and the Future Forum, the first political school in the former communist countries has been opened here in Tirana. This school, Berisha said, prepares the future leaders of the Albanian right. On a joint initiative with the Foundation, the electoral system, the election code, as well as an anti-drug project, have been prepared for 3 consecutive years, according to Berisha. He then turned to the country's current situation, emphasizing that Albania is a country in constant change and the reforms undertaken with determination are bearing fruit. According to him, the opposition is being quite active these days because it senses defeat and is using every means to manipulate public opinion. The German representatives praised developments in Albania, declaring that they are convinced that the victory of the Democratic Party in the upcoming elections will be unquestionable. They underlined that the continuation of reforms and Albania's European integration require political stability and cooperation with Western partners.

Important for bringing the democratic path closer
Emphasizes Xhonas Roiell, official of the American National Democratic Institute
The American Institute for Democracy values the elections on 26 May in Skrapar, Kolonjë and Korçë as extremely important for the country's democratic progress. As Mr. Xhonas Roiell made known, these elections are a serious test for democratic standards and for the ability of parties to respect the rules of the game. He stressed the need for transparency, proper administration and broad participation of citizens in the electoral process. According to him, Albania has made progress, but still needs improvements in political culture and in strengthening institutions. The American official expressed confidence that a properly run electoral process will positively affect Albania's international image.
