Tirana will vote blue. Blue is the flag of Europe; blue is the flag of the DP
Nearly 300,000 residents of the capital filled central Tirana last night, once again confirming that the DP’s victory in the capital is certain—a fact that many analysts and observers have already confirmed.
There are only 30 hours left before the ballot boxes open on 26 May, while Tirana hosts the biggest rally ever held in Albania. With this active participation, in which enthusiasm and the good manners and civic spirit of Tirana’s residents predominate, Berisha is now asking for an ample vote for the DP. Throughout, the extraordinary enthusiasm of democratic Tirana for victory, for the DP, was palpable. It was very difficult for the President to get a word in amid all that enthusiasm, but Berisha’s intervention [for many?] and the achievements he cited through [intermediation?] and in concrete terms in his [?]...
“We used to make the same [?] requests to God,” Berisha emphasized. “It was a dream for us that Albanian youth would organize rock festivals and fashion shows, whereas today these are a reality throughout Albania. It was a dream for us to own a car; today cars are common in villages and towns. It was a dream for us to escape our long-standing poverty; today we have everything, we have our dignity, our work and our freedom.
“Furthermore,” Berisha continued, “it was a dream for Albanians to travel freely; today they go wherever they want. Today Skanderbeg’s flag, Albania’s flag, flies proudly at the Council of Europe. NATO, which not long ago was forbidden territory for Albania, is now its close and worthy partner. We have [?] friends all over the world.
“Tomorrow someone may say that we are great dreamers,” Berisha emphasized. “Together, we will answer that we will realize all our dreams. The DP has not yet completely lifted Albania out of poverty,” Berisha continued, “so together we must continue correcting the mistakes and putting democracy into practice. The DP keeps its promises. I invite you,” Berisha emphasized, “not to forget that freedom of the vote lies at the heart of Albania, and the DP is committed to respecting the free vote, because that vote gave birth to the DP and that vote will give it victory again on 26 May. Our good fortune will come soon, because Europe awaits us. Your trust in us is in your interest, in the interest of freedom, and in the interest of all Albania and all Albanians.”
President Berisha invited the people of Tirana, from Skënderbej Square, to continue together for another four years toward a better life. “Let us continue together on the road to Europe,” Berisha emphasized. “The flag of Europe is blue, and on 26 May we will vote blue. In your name,” Berisha emphasized, “let us address all Albanians wherever they may be: vote for your freedoms, not for socialism; vote for faith in God, not atheism; vote for your virtues, not Marxism; for your property, not collectivization; vote for Europe, not Albania’s isolation; vote for your future, your children, and Albanian youth, who here in this very square once defied the communist dictatorship. Vote for the economic boom, not destruction; for stability, for friendship in Europe, for the success of private property, not the progressive taxes of the social-communists.”
At the end, President Berisha, warmly received by those present, offered his finest words of thanks to Tirana and its residents for their excellent welcome, their trust, confidence and support for the DP. He confidently told the people of Tirana that the city would always remain blue.
