Punishments in the PS before the congress
The reformist chairman once again under scrutiny by the leadership
At 4 p.m. yesterday from the grassroots
At a moment of hope, passion and emotion that had become routine for the defeated party, there arose, there arose that current[?] of the social democrats in Albania, a movement against the authoritarianism of the party leadership, and for a reappraisal of the new post-election situation.
However, after the June elections the socialists carried out a twofold operation which, by creating the idea of a real change on the side of the new chairman, made it possible to displace opposing forces within the party structures. Without waiting long, the lack of a new structure for the Socialist Party, which clearly should have assumed responsibility on the basis of democratic principles and the principle of "one member, one vote," was used by the old group to control the situation in the PS. District leaderships were put under pressure, some were replaced, and familiar old names returned again to the leadership.
Thus, recently, yesterday's leadership meeting, which cannot be called a normal meeting, pushed its chairman, Servet Pëllumbi, into an open challenge to the reformist group. On the basis of the discussions held so far, it is clear that the reformist chairmen of the PS are being targeted one by one. The chairman of Korçë, Paskal Milo, will be judged before the congress. Such was the fate of the chairman of Librazhd, Sokol Olldashi[?], and several others.
On Monday, 29 July, the party leadership decided to strip the chairman of the powers and functions held by the chairman of the PS of Elbasan, Edmond Spaho[?]. According to our sources, the decision was taken without any consultation with the grassroots organizations, showing that the old practices have started functioning again.
The Council consultation, which will meet in the coming days, the party's highest authority in the period between two congresses, is turning into a formality. This means that the road to the congress is being cleared for the recycling of old figures. Reformist socialists express concern that the latest democratic developments in the party risk being reversed.

The Party of Pride
At a time when all moments of hope, passion and emotion had become routine for the defeated party, there arose, there arose that current[?] of the social democrats in Albania that was to lead to real change in the PS.
The main drag[?] has lain in the fact that the boys[?] of the opposing current were unable to carry out a revision of their latest policy. Instead of building a strategy to explain to the party base the reasons for their opposition, they remained hostage to spontaneous and emotional attitudes.
The Socialist Party has turned into an organism in which its fate is inseparably tied to that of a small group of people who control everything from the lists of parliamentary candidates to the members of the commissions. It does not matter whether the party loses or wins; what matters is preserving the old structure of power.
Its response to demands for internal democracy has also followed this line. That is why important figures within the party have been struck down one after another. The case of Paskal Milo, who is being threatened with expulsion, is only the latest in a series of cases.
If the leadership does not reflect, the PS will go to the congress in an atmosphere of division and mistrust. I find it hard to believe that such a party can emerge stronger after the congress.
