Kosovo, Georgia, Gjeçevë? and Global? and the republican movement, quoted yesterday by the red-pink coalition. The latter held a press conference on Friday morning at the “Tirana International” hotel, in a meeting with journalists, where he answered questions from the foreign and domestic press.
Asked about the problems the opposition is raising regarding the electoral process in Albania, Bush said that the 26 May elections were a victory for democracy. “They will always be remembered as an important day for democracy,” he said, adding that “those who lost and are still complaining understood the people’s vote. They received a clear victory”.
Referring to the election observation process, Bush said that ODIHR, as an impartial observer, would present its report and that “this would make clear how free and how fair the elections were”. Bush added that “we have consistently advised the opposition to do what parties do in a democracy: go to Parliament and work for the people”.
Bush said that his coming to Albania was an expression of support for President Berisha and for democratic developments. “We are here because we believe that Albania has made progress,” he said.

Against the claims of ODIHR observers
Yesterday the Central Election Commission at a press conference:
The Central Election Commission and the red-pink coalition have begun an absurd process of denigrating the election results in Albania, echoing some of the claims of ODIHR observers. The commission’s spokesperson, in a press statement, rejected the accusations of serious violations, stressing that the process has been in line with Albanian law and democratic standards.
According to the statement, preliminary reports by some observers have been used selectively by the opposition to create an atmosphere of tension. The commission emphasizes that the procedures for voting, counting and announcing the results were respected.
The statement also calls on the losing parties to accept the verdict of the voters and not to encourage political destabilization. It was stressed that the claims should be handled institutionally and not through propaganda campaigns.
