President of the Republic Sali Berisha was received yesterday among the students of the University of Kamza, where, amid enthusiasm and continuous applause, he was given a warm and brotherly welcome by the leader of Albanian democracy, who also paused to greet warmly the high school students of this center.
In his speech, Mr. Berisha stressed, among other things, that during these four years of government the PD had achieved success in consolidating order and democracy, restoring economic freedom, success in creating the foundations of the market economy, and macroeconomic stabilization. All of these will be positive factors for Albania's integration into Europe and for transforming the Albanian state into a democratic state.
Mr. Berisha told the students of the University of Kamza that the beginning of building democracy means uprooting communism and every illusion about communism. These 20 years since we separated from communism and built our nation of freedom and democracy. President Berisha pointed out that students and young people are the first and most interested in the affirmation of free voting, in the liberalization of the economy, and in opening Albania for its integration into European structures. He emphasized that the interests of Albanian youth are inseparable from the broader interests of Albania, the Albanian nation, and democracy.

At the meeting held by President Berisha with the students of the University of Kamza, the head of the Education Department at the PD, Tritan Shehu, as well as the chairman of the PD in Tirana, Spartak Ngjela, took part. During the meeting Mr. Berisha was also accompanied by the general secretary of the PD, Eduard Selami.

President Berisha declared yesterday that, regardless of left-wing or right-wing coalitions, the key to victory for democracy and a free Albania remains the free vote. Mr. Berisha's statement was made during a meeting with residents of Tirana's Blloku area, with whom he had a warm conversation.
After mentioning the successes of democratic governance such as recognition of private property, the creation of a free market, the building of infrastructure, and Albania's successful break from economic, political and social isolation, President Berisha said that these are only the first steps of a deep transformation of Albanian society.
He said that Albania will enter the 21st century as a free country, with a market economy and consolidated democratic institutions, stressing that only the PD guarantees this path.

The elections of 20 October are above all a referendum on the country's European future and on the continuation of democratic reforms, he said.
At the end of the meeting, the residents of the Block expressed their support for the PD and its candidates in the local government elections.
