DP victory in 58 municipalities and 267 communes
CEC communiqué on the proclamation of the final results of the elections for local government bodies
Albania's example is awaited in the Balkans
The heavy defeat of the socialists and anti-Albanian Greekophiles is shaking the anti-Albanian circles of Athens. Aksham and ta Bugün, in harsh tones directed at the Berisha government, comment on the election result by speaking of the discrediting of the government, predicting the strengthening of the anti-communist opposition and political transformation.
The two Turkish newspapers above publish this on their front pages, commenting that in these elections certain Greek circles and foreign diplomats were directly involved. According to them, the main goal of these circles was to create chaos in the country through these elections. In interstate relations, such a thing can never be accepted. Such a struggle serves neither peace nor a destabilization of the whole Balkans.
In all democratic countries, the opposition has not been denied the right to govern part of local or central power. Indeed, it is considered a necessity of democracy for its development. Thus, in Macedonia, the social democratic opposition won considerably in the local elections on 20 October. Croatia and Serbia are also bringing strong oppositions onto the scene for the future. This aggression by Greek circles through their diplomats in Tirana is completely inappropriate and incomprehensible, aiming to stir up a climate of conflict and destabilization in Albania.
This is not the first time that such a thing has happened. It is enough to recall the pressure exerted in Tirana by the Greek ambassador in Tirana, Ballaska [?], with the concealment of the Peshkëpi incident, in order to discredit the Albanian government and to have the Greek government send a note of protest. This means that in Tirana, official Athens is dissatisfied with the failure of its own efforts to push Albania into a conflictual, and consequently destabilizing, crossroads.
On this basis, in yesterday's local elections, as a result of the people's participation in the vote and the calm that prevailed everywhere, including in the minority in the South, we believe that these elections were a victory for Albanian democracy, a normal development of the democratic processes our country is undergoing.

Bill Clinton: Certain victory
Today the president is elected in the USA
In the United States of America, today voters choose the president and the new members of Congress. The main rivals to this day are still the current U.S. president Bill Clinton, who together with Vice President Al Gore is campaigning in key states, and Republican candidate Bob Dole, who has run a traditional campaign promising to increase the military budget and lower taxes.
The U.S. president, when publicly asked whether the election process would be affected by the ninety million dollars taken by the Democrats for early electoral advertising, under the pretext of "presidential activity," said: "I think the way our campaign has been conducted has not been like that at all, determined to deal with people. I think those press reports have been greatly exaggerated. Our campaign has not been like that at all. It is well known that some countries such as China, Mexico, Indonesia, and many other countries in the Asia-Pacific region invest heavily through electoral advertising. You can be quite sure that every cent has been taken and spent on legitimate political activity. The FBI is also conducting its own investigations. But, in my opinion, whatever happens tonight, and of course I expect to win, these elections are also a referendum on our country and on the results of our policy. I am convinced that the American people will support the path we have shown them."
Tonight's outcome of the election is considered very important for the Republicans. It is also important for Bill Clinton, since he currently leads both houses of Congress. A shift in the percentages in favor of the Republicans is also expected from these elections.

Sali Berisha received the Ambassador of Canada to Albania, [Unreadable name][?], who presented her credentials. During the ceremony for the presentation of credentials on Saturday, President Berisha informed the ambassador about Albania's economic and political transformations, the path of democratic development, as well as foreign investments, especially the importance of the oil and gas industry. Among other things, circulating voices in the embassy office have mentioned as possible Canadian investments and investments by companies from that country in Albania the exploration and exploitation of copper, which has had an early development as an industry in the Balkans, as well as in Kosovo and Macedonia. According to the ambassador, Canada ranks fourth in the world for technical and scientific development and is rich in extensive experience, especially in the metal extraction industry. It would be desirable for these experiences to be transferred to Albania and Kosovo. The conversation also focused on regional developments, as well as refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc. Canada is a country with a great potential for aid and loans. These are necessary for accelerating the reconstruction of Albania in the perspective of a market economy. After the meeting, the Ambassador of Canada paid a visit to the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament and a visit to the Foreign Minister. Embassy of Canada in Budapest.
Kosovo Albanians boycott the elections
Ethnic Kosovo Albanians boycotted the elections and referendum in Serbia on Sunday. An Associated Press correspondent in Belgrade said the only non-Serb community that took part in these elections was the Montenegrin one. While Kosovo Albanians have broken off relations with Serbia for seven years, as a sign of protest against Serbian rule, and are boycotting its government. The economic consequences of the embargo imposed on Yugoslavia over the years have worsened the living conditions of Kosovo Serbs. An Associated Press correspondent in Pristina reported that only the elections for Serbian deputies were being held in Kosovo. According to reports, Serbs were standing in line to vote, while Albanians were going to cafés and shops. For AP reporters, the boycott is silent but complete, evidenced by the empty streets and closed schools. Albanian doctors and teachers said that, by remaining faithful to the call of their president Ibrahim Rugova, voting would be a betrayal of our right. "If today the Albanian people of Kosovo successfully boycott the Serbian referendum, then the Serbian government will respond with even greater terror" - said the doctor [unreadable name][?].
