All PD structures should engage in the reform
The chairman of the PDSH, Tritan Shehu, on the upcoming meeting of the National Council
Socialists isolated from the future
Facing the Socialists with mostly clear paths. The PS showed that it represents another political Albania, rigid and insensitive to the dramas of the transition, which it will instrumentalize for its own power and interests. Their responsibility is great for the psychological and destabilizing climate created in recent months. This non-constructive political approach, which smells of the past together with its propaganda, benefits from our corrupt popularity.
Between the political forces in power and the opposition there are many common points on the major objectives of democratizing the institutions, reforms, integration into the European Union, and strengthening the international position of the nation and of Albania. This is the normal thing, normality. We must discuss ways, alternatives, solutions, but not the fundamental problems of democracy. These problems belong to history. In our country, in this last year, a qualitative leap has been made in coexistence with the law and with democracy. Once it was put to the test, it resisted, facing a stormy period and becoming stronger still. It is a great merit of the democratic forces and of the maturity of our political culture.
Against this background, we cannot focus on the exploitation of certain events. Nor can rhetoric about a "violated pluralism" or other unfounded insinuations continue. The PD and the democratic forces have proven through deeds that they stand by pluralism and by the rules of the democratic game. The Socialists, by contrast, use the crisis of transition to fuel destabilizing illusions, trying to present themselves as the only alternative. This is not modern opposition, but a remnant of old mindsets.
We must move forward with reform, the market economy, the strengthening of the rule of law and European integration. These are tasks that require commitment from all structures of the Democratic Party and its allies.
