Protests continued again yesterday in Vlora

According to reports received after the end of the parliamentary session, there were traffic blockades in the city and citizens raised various slogans against the government and the president. According to the reports, the protesters demanded the government’s resignation and the declaration of a state of emergency.
Yesterday, after a government meeting, the possibility of declaring a state of emergency to restore order in Vlora was discussed. But the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party rejected this proposal, considering it a political provocation and a violation of democratic freedoms.

This was stated yesterday by the Italian Foreign Minister, Lamberto Dini, speaking about the situation in Albania and its impact on the region.
He stressed that Italy is interested in Albania’s stability and in supporting the path of democratic reforms. According to him, international cooperation is essential to face the crisis.
Today’s Albania is a friendly country for Italy and for Italians, but this does not justify anyone’s indifference in the face of the difficulties it is going through.

Yesterday the entire Albanian nation was shaken by a most disgraceful bandit act. Thousands of Albanians from Vlora, Sapa, Himara and the surrounding villages gathered to escort Arif Rustemi to his final resting place.
The grim news of his killing spread rapidly. The coffin covered with the national flag was placed in the foyer of the “Petro Marko” theater, where many citizens paid their respects. The ceremony was attended by numerous personalities, representatives of local government, deputies, intellectuals and citizens who came from all over Albania.
In the words spoken during the ceremony, it was stressed that the killing was an attack against civil peace and democracy. The perpetrators and organizers of this criminal act were called to be brought before justice.
The daily subscription / or sëhup [?] of yesterday decided that if the government decides to declare a state of emergency, this would bring serious consequences for the country. Thus yesterday’s parliamentary session was closed.
