After the credentials were received by Mr. Zhani Shohri, the 14th delegate in Italy, in the service of the Albanian ambassador accredited in Italy, he held meetings with senior representatives of the neighboring state. In the first talks, the need for close cooperation to overcome the difficulties and restore order and institutions was emphasized. Italy has been valued as a friendly country that has stood by Albania in one of the most difficult periods. The Prime Minister and the Italian authorities have expressed readiness for humanitarian aid, political support and further cooperation. Shehu thanked the Parliament, the Government and the Italian people for their hospitality and for the “Alba” operation, underlining the importance of international solidarity in overcoming the Albanian crisis. Concrete agreements are the main condition for restarting the dialogue process, not speculation at the table with other names. The 9 March Agreement, signed among the political forces and in the presence of international observers, clearly defined the path toward resolving the crisis in the country. The Democratic Party reiterates that the full implementation of this agreement is a fundamental condition for the restoration of institutional and political normality. The issue of representation at the dialogue tables cannot be used to evade the responsibilities arising from the agreement. The PD rejects speculation with other names and stresses that what matters is respect for the commitments undertaken, not the artificial changing of the composition of the talks. Within this framework, the political forces in the agreement must commit to concrete measures that guarantee public calm, the functioning of institutions, and the holding of elections in a free and fair climate.
