Albania - the country where freedom of thought
and expression is a reality
Even President Berisha’s fiercest opponents are
many times freer and more politically independent
than the leaders of this American institution of Albanian
"The Albania of the century, the country in which citizens and
journalists are treated with the highest respect and with the broadest freedom for their
freedom of information and thought, is the only country in the world
in the region and in the West where there is unrestricted freedom for the press and free speech,"
writes Robert Fisk in Sunday’s New York Times.
This well-known American newspaper, with world prestige and a century-old tradition,
refers in this same article to comments that several American organs such as
"Wall Street Journal", "The New York Times", etc. have made about Albania
during these days, praising the unrestricted freedom of the press.
In this context, the president of the well-known American foundation Freedom House,
Mr. Adrian Karatnycky, has declared that "no one in the world can
deny Albania freedom of expression and the press."
He cites as strong evidence the fact that some of President Berisha’s fiercest opponents
not only openly oppose the government, but also have large space in the media and civil society.
The article goes on to note that press freedom in Albania has become a tangible reality
and that the accusations raised by political opponents do not hold.
It emphasizes that in Albania there are a large number of newspapers and information organs
with different political orientations and that no one is prevented from
expressing their opinion.
According to this assessment, even President Berisha’s fiercest opponents
are many times freer and more politically independent than the leaders of
this American institution in Albania.

full support for the efforts of the
Albanian institutions in this direction.
