President Berisha appeals to those wavering after the rebellion With the socialists, there is only dictatorship and rebellion, or rebellion and dictatorship, the President stressed at a meeting with residents of the Ndroq Commune President Berisha yesterday called on the Lekundra electorate to choose a new future for Albania, after the difficult period brought about by the communist rebellion. Before hundreds of residents of the Ndroq Commune, south of the capital, President Sali Berisha addressed all Albanians, urging them to turn 29 June into the day of a decisive victory for the Democratic Party, preserving the Albanian people’s prospects of following the path of democracy toward the country’s integration into Europe. After highlighting the achievements of the Democratic Party’s program over the past five years, the President invited the villagers to once again support the PD’s alternative, to guarantee their freedoms, roads, and Albania’s development along the path of a free-market economy. The President told the wavering electorate, who during the days of rebellion had wavered alongside the Democratic Party, to reflect. This wavering, he said, must end now, because of the rebellion, the gangs that terrorized citizens every day, and the continued trampling of Albania. A wavering of confidence is a loss of confidence in property, freedom, and the building of a better future for the country. Therefore, 29 June must be a fitting response to the communist rebellion. The collapse of the pyramid schemes was a pretext, but not the cause of the red rebellion. The rebellion, the President said, was the product of the communists’ pathological hatred of the free vote, of a society divided into classes, of wealthy citizens, and of property and freedoms for all, of property and freedoms for all. Berisha denounced the communists’ efforts to tear the country apart, to bring about civil conflict, and to seize power by force.
