The journalist is brutally brought back to life

Brutal violence against the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Bulevard”, Bedo Malo The power of crime wants to silence the free press On the evening of Tuesday, 18.02.97, around 6:00 p.m., the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Bulevard”, Mr. Bedo Malo, was leaving the newspaper’s newsroom with two military police officers who were escorting him. As soon as he had gone a few meters further, upon entering a local establishment, he was stopped by two plainclothes men who addressed him with the words: “Do you know the state, do you know the police?” After punching him, they took him by car to the premises of Police Station No. 3 in Tirana, where the chief of criminal police, Vlash Mazi, brutally beat him. A few days earlier, the newspaper “Bulevard” had published material related to the arrest of several so-called drug bosses, among whom the name of Vlash Mazi was also mentioned. According to the newspaper, he had been involved in numerous scandals. The incident constitutes a serious act of violence against the free press and a mafia-style warning to critical journalists.
