Today the pain of Otranto returns
The socialist government avoided international investigations into the Otranto tragedy. Shocking new testimony from Vlora
Albania mourns the worst tragedy of the Adriatic. In Vlora, a delegation from the PD attends the victims' burial ceremony
The chairman of the PP, Sali Berisha, comforts the families and relatives of the victims of Otranto
With you, in your great pain
During this meeting, the leader of the nation’s tragedy. “For your pain, with you and the PP government, expressed its condolences and the Democratic Party is also here. I ask the families and relatives of the victims. You have lost your dearest ones and your minor children, but Albania and the entire Albanian nation have also lost their own close people. All Albanians are with you today. This is a day of national mourning.
Dear family members, friends and relatives of the victims of the tragedy of 28 March, above all I want to express to you the great and deep human solidarity of the PD, which stems from the deep conviction that this was an undeserved misfortune for your relatives, a grave tragedy for our nation. Please accept my deepest respect, my pain as an Albanian and as a human being, and with it the expression of full human solidarity that we have today with you. Your relatives and children found death in a barbaric act, from which every Albanian feels revolt, pain, sorrow and anger. But apart from the barbarity and pain that accompanied this tragedy, the initial data gathered and the first testimonies collected by the only independent commission set up for this tragedy show that the Albanian socialist government, through its actions and inaction and through its decisions, encouraged the captain of the ship 'Sibilla' and its crew to undertake the most criminal actions, in violation of international laws and conventions and of human norms, with which they attacked at sea with their warship, with the sole aim of sinking and drowning hundreds of Albanian citizens, children and women, men and elderly people, who had boarded their boats in order to leave Albania. The grave act committed by the Italian ship can never be justified. It is a cruel and inexplicable act. Just as condemnable is the Albanian government, which avoided an international investigation into this tragedy so that its responsibilities could be concealed.
Your pain will never be easy to forget. But I want to assure you that your pain is the pain of every Albanian, and that in honor of the memory of the lives lost in Otranto, we will insist that the truth come to light and that those responsible be punished. Albania cannot reconcile itself with forgetting.
Last night on TV, the chronicle of a foretold crime
Nuno answered the murder of the opposition
If something happened like what happened with Otranto and the vessel 'Kateri i Radës', it was not an accidental tragedy. It was, according to many testimonies, a foretold crime. The new evidence coming from Vlora, published in a television report, sheds light on the role of the Albanian authorities and on the avoidance of a full investigation.

Pain and accusation
While the assessments of the investigators have begun to be reflected even in the first schematic solutions, it is now the turn of the Democratic Party to give its first assessments of the current election situation. In order to emerge as the leading force in the city of Vlora, a delegation headed by the secretary general Genc Pollo made a visit yesterday to Vlora, standing by the families of the victims of the Otranto tragedy. It was a serious event, one that by its scale went beyond the limits of a national drama. Responsibility for the tragedy of 28 March in Otranto belongs both to the Italian government and to the Albanian one. The decision not to allow an international investigation into the Otranto tragedy is an arbitrary and anti-national act by the Nano government. It was precisely this stance that the chairman of the PP, Mr. Berisha, denounced yesterday before the families of the victims. For such a serious event, which is truly a tragedy for the nation, justice is needed now more than ever. A government with democratic culture cannot in any way pass over in silence an act of this kind, in which hundreds of human lives were extinguished at the height of their desire to seek a safer shelter. To seek the guilt of your own state in such a tragedy means, above all, to help reveal the truth about the perpetrators and to restore the lost dignity of the victims. It was within this same perspective that the chairman of the PP acted yesterday, who, in the language of a mature political leader, not only denounced the Nano government as the author of an inexplicable avoidance of the investigations, but also consistently called on the families of the victims to demand the justice that is missing. The Nano government's stance has been cynical and heartless. Not only did it avoid the international investigation, but it has also continuously tried to diminish the scale of the tragedy, to save Italy from responsibility, and to darken even more the already grim image of Vlora. For this reason, the public denunciation of this stance could not fail to constitute a strong accusation.
