The general strike knocks at the door
Everyone against the Nano government. Strike in Patos, Kuçovë, Laç, Bajzë, Tirana
Oil workers are on a week-long strike. Metalworkers in Laç have gone on strike. Railway workers in Bajzë suspend work. High school students in the capital are striking?
A government that sows
death and destruction
The deadly silence of state television, the officials of Fatos Nano, the demand by the “self-employed” for the dismissal of the port director, the government’s failure in the face of the grave situation and the misery that are pushing Albanians onto the rubber-boat route, which is controlled by mafia gangs linked to high-ranking state officials. These are only some of the wounds of today’s government, which is driving the country toward collapse. In many enterprises and cities across the country, a wave of strikes and protests has begun.
The silence of state television in the face of pain and popular revolt has now become open cooperation with the policy of impoverishing the country.
The Albanian Oil Trade Union Community began yesterday its week-long strike in oil extraction and processing enterprises. The strike has started in Patos, Kuçovë and in other sectors where the unions have declared disobedience to government policy.
The unions’ demands are clear: back pay, guaranteeing jobs, stopping the destruction of industry, transparency over privatizations, and social protection for workers.
In Laç, metal workers have gone on strike, while in Bajzë the railways have suspended work. In Tirana, protest movement has also been reported in the high schools.
The Nano government is facing citizen rejection on many fronts, and this is a sign that the country is entering a new phase of social and political confrontation.
