They stole 155 million dollars

The Democratic Party denounces government smuggling. The state pyramid runs rampant with tobacco, coffee, fuel and alcoholic drinks. The state budget is being violated in the pockets of government officials. Government officials have taken 72 million dollars from fuel, 16 million dollars a month from tobacco, and 15 million dollars from coffee. The shocking figure for smuggling exceeds the amount of wages and pensions that Albanians receive in a year. With the stolen money, around 65,000 jobs could have been created The Democratic Party invites Albanians into its own destruction The Democratic Party denounced yesterday, with evidence, the biggest plundering of the state budget by the Nano government since it came to power. The plundering of the wealth and sweat of Albanians is carried out through smuggling organized by the government of the Left Coalitions. During a press conference by the PD spokesperson, Ylli Vejsiu, it was stated that the Nano government, contrary to the most basic state standards, has legalized the trafficking of goods by speedboat into Albania, depriving the state of a significant share of budget revenues. We are talking about millions of dollars that are reaching the pockets of those in power every day. Giving the example of fuel smuggling, the PD spokesperson said that “according to official data, the import of this commodity has continued at negligible levels throughout the entire period of left-wing rule. Thus, before Nano came to power, fuel was imported at around 12,000 tons per month. During the 9 months of Nano's government, around 31.4 tons of fuel have entered Albania per month, avoiding a significant portion of fiscal obligations.” In one day, 83,000 tons enter Albania. By legalizing the trafficking of goods by speedboat, the Nano government has avoided a quantity of 40,000 tons of fuel per month. This means that the amount of stolen duties, or duties diverted into the pockets of government officials, reaches 8 million dollars per month. For fuel alone, the Nano government has so far stolen around 72 million dollars. Cigarette smuggling is just as huge. According to official data, cigarette imports for the January–September 1997 period are 12,000 tons lower than those for the January–September 1996 period, while imports of alcoholic beverages are 84 percent higher. This means that consumption of both goods in the country has not only not fallen, but has instead increased, which means that a significant quantity is entering by speedboat through smugglers who work for the government. Referring to official data, the Nano government loses 3 million dollars a month from tobacco, and the same amount each month from coffee. The shocking figure for government smuggling in Albania reaches 155 million dollars. This is equal to the wages and pensions of all Albanians for one year. If this money were put at the service of economic development, it would create more than 65,000 jobs. Bersia, Bode and Karamuço at yesterday's press conference

The Democratic Party invites Albanians into its own destruction

The response of Albania's loud voice. The brigade of Fatos Nano's staff, together with other officials who have occupied the base of its organization of state actions, have put at the disposal of this war means that make it very dangerous. Such was also the press conference organized yesterday at the Tirana Municipality. The parliamentary inquiry commission has long given the appropriate answer. The chairman of the PD parliamentary group also made clear yesterday that, in the face of this openly declared war against the opposition and its freedoms, the Democratic Party will not retreat. In this regard, the stance of the parliamentary group has also been made clear. It declared that the opposition will never accept the destruction of its base and its political structures. Yesterday it was also announced that the PD offices will remain open and political activity will continue despite the threats. At the end of the statement it says that Albanians are invited to be part of the resistance to this destructive policy.

The persecutors are seen in the Presidency

Nano's resignation is demanded

The opposition and PBDNJ comment on Nano's statement about the Italian prosecutor Godo: Nano must have lost his mind Laso: Nuno must resign Bshdhi[?]: 80-70-jet has remained before Meteo. Shameless Nano-system Through public statements, and later also through statements in the press, representatives of the opposition and of the PBDNJ reacted to Prime Minister Fatos Nano's statement, in which he accused Italian prosecutors of interfering in Albania's internal affairs. According to the opposition, this statement constitutes a serious violation of democratic standards and an attempt to hinder investigations into trafficking and corruption. In their statements, Godo, Laso and others have openly called for Nano's resignation, deeming his behavior unacceptable. They stress that Albania needs serious institutions, not attacks on international justice.
