CoE: Nano, do not touch justice!
The Legal Committee approves the resolution: The pressure of the Tirana government on the judiciary is condemned. Rustem Gjata: This is a constitutional coup. Mitko asks Gjinsht to intervene
For Nano, low credentials
Severe criticism in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that the decisions of the Assembly to replace members of the Constitutional Court and the Prosecutor General are unconstitutional. The rapporteur for Albania, the French deputy from the right-wing group in the CoE, Jacques Baumel, announced in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that he was preparing a report on the latest developments in Albania. During the debate, speakers had asked the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to meet urgently to address the constitutional problems in Albania.
A SHARP protest, though somewhat restrained, which day by day was losing its composure and was increasingly showing itself as a coup d'état. After this revolt, the free world has reacted. The Council of Europe has specifically expressed serious concern about what is happening in Albania and about the destabilizing consequences that the constitutional crisis created by the unconstitutional decisions of the left-wing majority may have.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the CoE has adopted a special resolution condemning the pressure of the Tirana government on the judiciary. This is the first time that such a European body has drawn the Albanian government's attention so harshly to interference in justice. The resolution notes that the Assembly's decisions to dismiss members of the Constitutional Court and replace the Prosecutor General undermine the separation of powers.
Rustem Gjata described this development as a constitutional coup, while calling for an immediate institutional response. Mitko asks Gjinsht to intervene to prevent the escalation of the institutional conflict.

Low credentials
Vretzha Megi and Rafael Hyseni, on behalf of the parliamentary group of the PDS in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, stated that the latest moves by the Albanian government, especially the dismissal of the prosecutor general and the attempts to replace members of the Constitutional Court, are troubling. Nano appears with low credentials before European institutions.
The discussion emphasized that the new government is acting unilaterally and weakening the constitutional mechanisms. Concerns were raised about the level of political dialogue and about the behavior of the majority toward the opposition. It was noted that Albania needs stability, respect for the law, and functioning institutions.

Gjirokastër: More scandals surrounding the dictator
In Gjirokastër, on 5 December 1997, light was shed on a particular grave for 20 to 45 minutes during the night. According to sources, two policemen and civilians were seen carrying out suspicious actions. Residents of the area claimed that valuables were placed in the grave and unusual movements were carried out.
On the other hand, numerous allegations state that an Italian businessman from Milan, identified by the initials S.M., financed expenses for the memorial's processing. Other accounts also mention various political and administrative figures.
Meanwhile, the newspaper warns that it will publish other documents and evidence on this matter.

Lësi: The government corruption commission is worthless for oversight
On corruption and government responsibilities
Yesterday, Parliament decided to hold a long debate on the government's activities in the fight against corruption and smuggling, in order to assess its institutional effectiveness.
The chairman of the PD parliamentary group, Mr. Sali Berisha, accused the government of protecting its own people involved in suspicious affairs and of using formal commissions only for propaganda. He said the government is not interested in real transparency, but in hiding responsibilities.
According to him, the government commission has neither moral authority nor legal tools to fight smuggling, since its members are either themselves implicated or politically dependent.
Further criticism was also directed at the ministries and fiscal structures, calling for full investigations and immediate measures.
