Shitet strikes the police
PS-trained gangs, inspired and commanded by elements of the state police, continue their terror against citizens and police officers. This time, police officer Gentian Kola and the head of the criminal police of the Berat district, Enver Kapllan Murrizi, while checking near the village of Gjerbës, were shot dead. The killing of the two police employees caused deep indignation among all Albanian citizens, but not among the state police and the Nano government. The first suspicions in this killing fell on the names of Sali Shiti and Vullnet Boshnjaku. Not only were they free to move after this crime, but, on the contrary, accompanied by state police figures and people from the government, the state police continued arresting political opponents and beating hunger strikers. A ready team of special forces dispatched urgently to the scene was, once it received the order to leave, categorically prevented from going there, because according to the order from above, this matter belonged only to the local police. Under these conditions, the perpetrators had the chance to flee and hide.
On Friday evening, a group of experts from the Ministry of the Interior and the prosecutor’s office arrived at the scene. On Saturday, several people were arrested by order of the prosecutor of Berat; likewise, by order of the prosecutor, special forces police were prohibited from entering the village of Gjerbës. After that, on Saturday, Sali Shiti and relatives of his left the village in police cars. They headed for the city of Berat and, according to testimony, traveled accompanied by the head of the police station in the city center and were then escorted as far as near Lushnjë. This event outraged the Berat police, who maintain that the accused persons are not only not arrested, but are escorted in police cars. Official sources told the newspaper “RD” that on Saturday evening the Berat prosecutor’s office ordered the arrest of Sejdin Shehu, Sander Xhama, and Alfred Selimi, as the perpetrators of the killing of the two policemen and the kidnapping and wounding of the owner of the German company “Lengen”, Kolë Cervisheli. The Berat police immediately took action to implement the order. It is learned that the above-mentioned persons were part of Sali Shiti’s armed guard, who has been accused as the main organizer of the attack on the Ballsh police station on 11 March. They are also accused of the killing of the two SHIK officers, Agim Hoxha and Rrapo Tole, as well as other terrorist acts during the election campaign in the Mallakastër area. Sources from the PD electoral штаб in Mallakastër told the newspaper “RD” that these persons accompanied, whether as bodyguards or as political activists, the area candidate Xhavit Bufi and the multi-named candidate Kastriot Islami. These persons moved not only during the day but also at night through the villages, threatening and terrorizing the inhabitants and taking many opposition commissioners hostage. They were also active participants in attacks on PD activists and sympathizers in the area.
From the first investigations carried out by the police, several important facts were uncovered. Thus, the police managed to identify the people who were traveling with Sali Shiti on the night of the killing of the two policemen and the kidnapping and wounding of the businessman. It is learned that together with Sali Shiti in the car were his wife Vera, who is a parent of origin from Mallakastër, and her sister with her two children. It is also learned that the police leader who ordered the special forces to turn back did not inform the Minister of the Interior about the incident. The incident was kept secret in order to facilitate the escape of the criminals and place the lives of the policemen in danger. This put the Minister of the Interior in a very difficult position. Sources from the newspaper “RD” said that, under pressure from outraged police officers and public opinion, the Minister of the Interior yesterday ordered the dismissal of the director of the Berat police, Osman Nallbani. Officially, this dismissal has not yet been made public.
These same sources said that the local police leaders also asked Kastriot Islami, who is said to have been in that area, to accompany the man who had been in the car with Sali Shiti. It is learned that yesterday Kastriot Islami arrived at the Berat police station hall to take out of custody the suspected perpetrators of the killing of the policemen. According to the data, Islami ordered the release of Sali Shiti and the other persons who were with him on the night of the killing, making the clarification of this event even more complicated. Immediately afterward, the chairman of the District Court and a prosecutor also arrived at the police station. These persons exerted pressure on the police for the release of those detained. It is learned that during the session a person with the initials V.M. behaved in an extremely aggressive manner toward the police. Outraged by this behavior, the police sharply argued with the persons demanding the release of the arrested. After a long period of debate, Islami’s order to release the detainees was opposed by many police officers, but in the end it was carried out by the local police leadership.
It is learned that today the detained persons are expected to be questioned again. Police sources maintain that this will be difficult, since persons released once may leave and hide. The police are also investigating the role of local officials in concealing and favoring the perpetrators. The event has caused strong reactions in public opinion and has raised serious questions about the cooperation of police elements with criminal gangs.
