The opposition, now outside the parliament of crime
Marathon meeting of the National Council of the Democratic Party: the final divorce from the power of murderers, corruption and smuggling is decided
Berisha: “The opposition will not adhere to the theory of revolution, but to the democratic path to remove from power the most corrupt government in Europe”
No facade
The firm political decision of the Presidency of the Democratic Party for its complete and unconditional separation from the so-called left-wing parliamentary majority, as well as the open-ended boycott of the Assembly, began implementation yesterday. This decision, taken in the name of restoring the dignity of Albanian parliamentarism, brutally trampled by the recent acts of the majority of stolen votes, was sanctioned yesterday by the National Council of this political force. In the reasoning of the deputy chairman of the PD, Genc Pollo, the indefinite boycott of parliament received broad approval from the top democratic forum. According to Mr. Pollo, with this decision the Democratic Party is making a historical and moral choice. “It will not become part of the facade of democracy, it will not ignore the criminals in power. The Albanian opposition is definitively separating itself from the power that stole its vote, killed its activists and replaced the rule of law with a gang of traffickers”.
The National Council of the Democratic Party decided, after almost 10 hours of debate, on the opposition’s complete withdrawal from parliament. This was announced with all political colors by its chairman, Sali Berisha, who reiterated that the path to opposition victory will not pass through the theory of revolution. Berisha emphasized that this government must be removed from power by using all the means of the democratic movement. “This government must be overthrown as soon as possible with peaceful protests and demonstrations. This government must be removed with the free vote,” said Berisha.
According to him, the boycott of parliament does not mean the opposition is withdrawing from the country’s political life, but rather transforming it into a powerful civic and democratic movement. “We cannot sit in a hall where political crimes are approved, where corruption is legitimized and where Albania is desecrated every day,” he said.
Berisha accused the ruling majority of vote theft, links to smuggling and the establishment of a system of political violence. He said the opposition will mobilize citizens, students, intellectuals and all social strata for a democratic battle against this government.
The meeting also discussed the forms of organizing the protest, relations with international institutions and the need to build a broad opposition front against the socialist government.
Parliament was described as the “parliament of crime,” while the majority was presented as the representative of a power built on murder, corruption and smuggling.
