The grand rally in the capital in support of the anti-government protest and the resolution of the National Council of the Democratic Party has ultimately dispelled any illusion that Fatos Nano and his Socialist allies had that their so-called protest was over. The members and leaders of the Democratic Party, led by Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha, once again demonstrated before hundreds of thousands of citizens of the capital and beyond their determination to oppose, by every means, a corrupt government that is bringing Albania’s days to an end. At the same time, Wednesday’s rally in Skënderbej Square delivered a clear response to the Socialist government’s insistence and its propaganda that the DP is carrying out an isolated protest. The crowd gathered in the center of Tirana completely overturned this alibi.
At the rally, the chairman of the Democratic Party, Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha, spoke and strongly denounced the Nano government and its communist allies. He called it the most anti-Albanian, the most anti-democratic, the most corrupt government the country has ever known, one that is destroying the economy, impoverishing citizens, and plunging Albania into insecurity. Berisha called for the government’s resignation and warned that the protest would continue until it is overthrown.
The rest of the article mentions international support, the Council of Europe, and the invitation from Turkish President Suleyman Demirel to the chairman of the DP.
