A republic with a king-prime minister

By Bardhyl Londo This book gives you the feeling of traveling through time and different roads, always observing someone. First you see the one who speaks and shapes public opinion, then you move into the paths of politics, stopping especially at Fatos Nano's government, as the man who holds power in his hands. The author sees politics as a theater in which predetermined roles are played and where the prime minister appears as the central figure, sometimes as ruler, sometimes as arbiter of quarrels among his own people. In this sense, the republic is presented as a formal order, but with behavior and customs that resemble a royal court. As the text unfolds, the author dwells on the relationship between the state and the citizen, administrative arbitrariness, the use of fear and propaganda, and the way power tries to justify its own failures. He notes that the deeper the crisis becomes, the more visible the personalization of decision-making and the shrinking of institutions. Through an ironic and sharp language, the author attacks the cult of the individual and portrays the prime minister as a king without a crown, but with many courtiers and with an apparatus ready to serve him. The text continues with reflections on the moral crisis of the transition, the weakness of the opposition, the incompetence of the administration, and the impoverishment of ordinary people. The author raises questions about the fate of the republic when the law loses authority, when power turns into private property, and when citizens learn to live with the fear of insecurity. In the end, through a strong political subtext, the book is presented as a testimony of the time and as an accusation against a government that behaves like a monarchy dressed in the garments of a republic.
