Statement by the Deputy Chairman of the PD, Genc Pollo
Lifting Berisha’s immunity, an unprecedented act
Under the orders of Fatos Nano and this version of the PPSH, led by Rexhep Meidani, an unprecedented and unconstitutional act is being carried out against the former President, the leader of the opposition and statesman, Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha. Only two years after the fall of the communist system, the political criminalization of the main opponent of power is being attempted.
Today, in the Committee on Mandates, on the order of Fatos Nano, it was decided to lift Berisha’s immunity. This act is being carried out within the framework of a political campaign to strike the opposition and avoid the government’s responsibilities in the general crisis into which the country has sunk.
The PD considers this a serious provocation and warns that any harm to Berisha will have unpredictable consequences for the country’s stability.

Perry: The USA says no to Berisha’s arrest
The chairman of the PDSH, Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha, held a telephone conversation last night with the former US Secretary of Defense, William Perry.
During the conversation, Mr. Perry told Mr. Berisha that he was following the latest developments in Albania with great concern.
He strongly condemned the attack organized against the Chairman of the Kosovo New Democracy Party, Mr. Rexhep Qosja, by the FARK terrorist group.
Berisha informed Mr. Perry about the plot that Fatos Nano is preparing against him, the PD, and the entire opposition.
Mr. Perry told the Chairman of the PDSH that his arrest would destabilize the situation in Albania.
Mr. Perry assured Mr. Berisha of the firm support of official circles in Washington for the peaceful resolution of the crisis in our country.
According to Mr. Perry, the arrest of Mr. Berisha would turn Albania into an explosive hotspot for the region.

Everyone to Skanderbeg Square, in honor of Azem Hajdari
One year after Azem’s murder in Parliament, the democrats are more determined than ever in their protest
Together with the entire people of Albania, the democrats and all honest Albanians, today at 18:00, will commemorate in Skanderbeg Square the leader of the student movement of December ’90, Azem Hajdari. This is the second day of ceremonies in Hajdari’s honor, on the first anniversary of his murder in the attack of 12 September 1998.
In addition to laying wreaths and delivering memorial speeches, citizens are invited to take part in the peaceful protest against the anti-national regime of the government.

Fatos Nano does not accept the free press and wants to silence the opposition in Albania.
For a case like this, we cannot find a parallel in the country’s political history. Only under a totalitarian regime does the prime minister of a country forcibly order the closure of an opposition newspaper. This is happening today in Albania, governed by Fatos Nano.
This unprecedented action against the free press is part of his strategy to eliminate every critical voice against power. Instead of confronting the crisis, poverty, corruption, and civic revolt, the government chooses to attack the media.
No justification can cover this brutal act against freedom of speech. Albania cannot move toward Europe with police methods against newspapers, television stations, and political opponents.
