Europe identifies Nano’s gang

By Sami NEZA The joint statement of the foreign ministers of the EU member states, drafted after Wednesday’s meeting in Brussels, has completely rejected the Nano government’s accusations against the opposition of a coup d’état. This is the first time that the countries of the European Union have clearly identified Prime Minister Nano’s responsibility for the serious situation created in Albania. The Troika statement on Albania, published yesterday, emphasizes that “the recent events, in particular the killing of MP Azem Hajdari and three other people, as well as Prime Minister Fatos Nano’s decision to resign, created a new dramatic situation.” The Troika statement emphasizes that “all parties must refrain from using violence and respect the Constitution of Albania and the democratic institutions.” It then describes as unacceptable the declaration of two days of national mourning and the cancellation of the 22 November referendum “without broad political and legal consultation.” The Troika statement is a heavy blow to Nano government propaganda that the opposition demonstrations in recent days aimed to overthrow the government by force. In its statement the Troika makes it clear that “there will be no tolerance for anti-constitutional or unconstitutional ways of resolving the crisis” and that “it is very important for the government and the opposition to enter into peaceful and constructive political dialogue.” The statement also asks the Albanian authorities to do everything in their power to find and bring before justice those responsible for the killing of Azem Hajdari.
