Important decision by the National Council of the Democratic Party. Democrats and all Albanians must not vote for the constitution, Fatos Nano’s passport
Albanians, stay away from the ballot boxes!
The content of the majority deserves and exceeds this passport; it is anti-democratic and anti-national. The votes on 22 November consolidate a corrupt power, organized criminality, and national betrayal.
A chance for the PEOPLE
Yesterday, the Democratic leadership decided to boycott the 22 November vote on the socialist constitution, a decision taken in implementation of the National Council’s decision to exclude the government of the “coalition” which, after the exclusion in the People’s Assembly and the “stability” government led by it, was incapable of holding elections to democratic standards and was compromised for the constitutional referendum.
Such a constitution is an anti-historical exception in the European constitutional tradition, since it excludes from constitutional rights by referendum the parliamentary opposition and the winners of the 22 March 1992 elections. There can be no majority constitution imposed against the opposition.
Such a political act is one of the darkest pages of the return of dictatorship in Albania. Their constitution is the product of dark agreements that aim to perpetuate today’s power.
In this context, the Democratic Party calls on all Albanian citizens to reject this passport of Fatos Nano with their vote and not become tools of an anti-democratic and anti-national project. Voting on 22 November would serve to consolidate a corrupt power linked to organized crime and national betrayal.

The neutrality of third parties is a condition for the credibility of processes and for avoiding manipulation. When the third party takes sides, it loses moral and political legitimacy. In our circumstances, this principle has multiple value. [...]
