The government rewards Azem’s killers
No suspicion in the theft of the Tropoja Bank, the 600 million were sent specifically from Tirana for the gang of robbers
The large sum of money that was to be used by another route to devour the country’s economy could not have reached the Tropoja branch from anywhere except the government offices in Tirana. Here too we encounter the continuity of the coercive rule of this government, which has turned financing from mafia politics into the only way of administering the country.

The Tirana conference spoke
with the language of the opposition
By Bardhyl OXHONO
The Democratic Party yesterday assessed
the Washington international conference,
while on this occasion offering several
valuable suggestions regarding the problem
of Kosovo. Leonard Demi, who
responded to the press’s interest after
the meeting of the PD parliamentary group,
said that the international conference
held in Washington, as an all-inclusive
manifestation of international awareness of
the Kosovo issue, constitutes a valuable
contribution worthy of assessment. Speaking about
the participation in the conference of
political representatives of the different forces
of our country, Demi said that in this participation
the concern of the Albanian opposition
is reflected in the tragic dimensions that
the situation in Kosovo is taking. Moreover,
he emphasized, with the ideas, discussions
and issues it raised, the Albanian opposition
has been closer to the conference’s concepts,
while on the part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
a minimizing spirit was noticed, as if
this were not an existential problem for Albania.
Leonard Demi described as correct
some of the conference’s conclusions,
including the request for the presence of
NATO’s military factor in the region,
stressing that the solution to the crisis in
Kosovo passes through the maximum respect
for the rights of the Albanians of Kosovo and by avoiding
any kind of adventure, which according to Demi
does not help bring about a solution.
In the assessment of the country’s largest
opposition party, the conference constitutes
an alarm bell for the current government
and the Albanian political factor in general.
“It is an alarm bell because
the situation in Kosovo is moving toward wors-
ening, while we do not see any serious and active policy
on the part of the Albanian government and
its diplomacy to help a peaceful solution
of the crisis,” said Demi.
He also reminded the
Majority once again that its policy of withdrawing
from crisis situations is costing very much not only the peace
of the country, but also the blood and fate of fellow
countrymen in Kosovo. Further addressing the
security situation in Albania, the senior official
of the democrats stressed that this
issue continues to remain unresolved
as long as the current government is
completely incapable of restoring
order and peace in the country. “Today’s
government has given up on consolidating
the rule of law, because in all its actions
it appears defenseless in the face of crime and
its segments. This was clearly seen in the case of
the theft of the Tropoja Bank and other events.
The government looks on passively at the destruction of
public property, as long as crime will find there the means
to strengthen itself, as it did with the 600 million stolen
from the Tropoja Bank and left there in the open
for anyone to take. All this does nothing other than encourage
insecurity and create serious concerns for the public and society,”
he concluded.

has announced that on Thursday, 4 June,
a citywide protest of Tirana will take place,
with its participation as a citizen,
against the discrimination
being inflicted on the city and its citizens by
the nano-socialist government.
To protest, she said, against the failures
in improving the condition of the capital,
against mafia trafficking, against the
incompetent police, is a right and
a duty of every citizen, which
cannot be prevented either by the government’s
orders or by the provocative and insulting
declarations of Shpëtim Gjika.
She asked Prime Minister Nano not to
interfere with the right guaranteed by the Constitution
to demonstrate, also inviting him
to distance himself from the rhetoric of civil
war and from attempts to present and
treat the civic protest as a conspiracy against
the government or the institution. According to her, the protest
on Thursday is linked to clear
political demands, such as declaring Tirana a free zone,
the return of funds to Tirana and the holding
of free and fair local elections.
