Today, 70 days since the murder of the December Leader Every day that passes since the murder of Azem Hajdari, the symbol of democracy and pluralism, proves the involvement of Fatos Nano’s government and that of his successor in the crime that shook the entire Albanian world. The governments of the former communists, which leave free and unapprehended the criminals who took the life of the December Leader, show Albanians that they have been and remain on the side of the murderers, who have names and identities but are untouched by those in power. The Democrats and all Albanians who loved and honored Azem Hajdari cannot tolerate this fact under any circumstances. The Government must either apprehend the criminals and bring them to justice, or publicly declare that it itself committed the murder of Azem Hajdari.

ALBANIAN CITIZENS! You who value your fundamental rights and freedoms, do not vote for the draft passport that contains Article 18, the article on discrimination for political reasons, an article that exists in no democratic constitution and runs counter to the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. Do not forget that such an article brought Albanians 13,000 executions without trial and sent more than 400,000 others to communist concentration camps. You who aspire to a pluralist society, you who believe that only a free vote guarantees that we will not return to a new form of one-party rule, do not go and vote for the article that leaves the election commissions and vote counting solely in the hands of today’s governing coalition. ALBANIAN PROPERTY OWNERS! You who refuse to leave your property as collateral in the hands of the government, you who want to use it freely and without restriction, do not go and vote for the draft passport, Article 41 of which, as in no other constitution of a democratic country, gives the government a free hand to expropriate without constitutional guarantees, deprives you of the right to sell, give away, bequeath, and use your property as you wish. Under this article, land and every other property acquired during this period remain in the hands of the government, and there is not a word about the state’s obligations regarding the expropriations and confiscations carried out in the communist past. ALBANIAN BELIEVERS! Do not vote for this draft passport, which despises your faith in God, declares in Article 10 that the Albanian state has no religion, allows changes of faith through economic pressure and famine, does not protect believers from racist and anti-Semitic speech, and abandons places of worship of national historical value. ALBANIAN CITIZENS! This is not your draft constitution; this, as the head of the Socialists has declared, is the draft passport of a government of smugglers and corrupt people such as the continent has never known. Therefore, the DP calls on you not to issue a new passport to a government of deceit, which promised to return 100% of your money and robbed you even of what remained in the firms’ bank accounts; which promised 250,000 jobs and added another 125,000 unemployed; which promised prosperity and brought poverty and misery through doubling prices and taxes; which promised thousands of lek in wages and pensions and set millionaires’ salaries for government officials alone; which promised order and left the country under the rule of masked men. DEAR VOTERS! The DP invites you not to go and vote on this draft passport, condemned by international opinion as the only one in its Hall in Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Representatives of the diplomatic mission, TV and several newspapers, 36 major political parties from 11 European jurisdictions, including the EU and the Council, Bulgaria, Berluskonia, Zhlvak? [unclear], Spain, Italy, Malta, Sweden, Austria, Karamanlis, as well as well-known figures such as Ludwig Sh... [unclear], chairman of the European Christian Democratic Union, Xhon Bruton, vice-president of the Christian Democrat International, the International Pan-European Union, and the prominent commissioners Matlasek and Morik, have condemned this draft as not meeting democratic standards. The claim that this draft was matured by the Venice Commission is contradicted by La Pergola’s statement that the Commission discussed the first version, and 53 articles of that version were changed, precisely the articles that the DP had demanded be changed. ALBANIAN VOTERS! You who are proud of the Albanian cause, you who aspire to a democratic and pluralist Albania, do not go and vote for the government’s draft passport, which is truly and utterly anti-Albanian.
