Bonn: Bushi tells it about Gjinushi
The Bundestag envoy for Albania, Social Democratic deputy Karl Hermann Haack, stressed that his reception and Gjinushi’s are in two different political camps
The President of the German Bundestag, Rita Süssmuth, is interested in the strike of the politically persecuted and the judges
German deputy Karl Hermann Haack was just finishing a conversation with journalists in Bonn when one of those present asked him whether it was true that there could be a meeting between him and the chairman of the PSD, Skënder Gjinushi. The question referred to a story published in the Albanian press and especially in the newspaper “Shqipëria Etnike” and on some radio stations. The German deputy’s reaction was sharp and immediate. “I assure you that, as far as I am concerned and as far as I know on Mr. Gjinushi’s side too, there has not been and there is no intention to have meetings.” That was all. “I cannot even imagine a meeting with that person as possible. I am categorical on this point,” Haack went on, clarifying for the journalists. The way the SPD deputy said this is linked to the fact that he is a well-known figure in German politics, responsible for Albanian affairs, but also a person with a prominent profile in the defense of human rights in the world. Asked whom he trusts in Albanian politics, he replied: “I think the chairman of the PD, Berisha, can be fully trusted, especially when he guarantees that the path he has outlined is the path toward Europe. It must not be forgotten that during this year the Albanian government must meet many of the conditions set in this regard by the Council of Europe in order to become worthy of membership in this important institution. So long as the Nano government shows not the slightest concern to move toward these standards, even from that point of view our concern about the situation must be taken seriously.” Nano is lying to the persecuted
More than fifty families were forcibly settled today in the building of the former Yugoslav Embassy in Tirana. This is unprecedented. It will greatly worsen the climate. But what makes it even more worrying is the fact that this building had been taken under police protection just a few days ago. Nano seems to have run out of ideas for finding housing for former prisoners. He is trying to put their problem into a dead end that cannot produce a political solution. For several months the government has announced that its mission would be to begin the compensation process for former prisoners. Before the government can take political decisions, it must first find the money to ensure the smooth running of this process. That is clear. No one can separate the compensation process from finding the financial resources to bring it to completion. The government has found no such solution. Of course, the government is free to choose wrong paths. It is trying to give temporary shelter to former political prisoners by placing them in buildings that do not belong to them or that have been occupied. Tirana and Kosovo”
This was the final conclusion of the conversation with journalists and of Haack’s official visit to Tirana and Bonn. In the photo: the building of the former Yugoslav Embassy where 50 families have been forced in.

Only 50 people understand the revolution
Vlora ignores the calls of the former rescue committee
Only 50 people took part on Thursday in a protest organized by the former “Rescue Committee,” which was calling, through the postiers, on 200-250, not 500, to protest in front of the prefecture against the government. The prefect of Vlora, Shtjefën Xhemali, said such a notice is ridiculous. He said that in total 40-50 people, all from among the postiers’ members, took part in the protest, which he said was organized to set Vlora on fire. Representatives of the association of former political prisoners also said they did not join the postiers. Compared with 10 June of the same year, when 1,000-1,500 people gathered in Vlora to blow up the protests, this protest in this way was a complete failure. Nevertheless, before the protest, many merchants closed their shops. Some private travel agencies did not work. There were also interruptions of buses to the villages. It was the only effect of the protest, which, according to the postiers’ representative, Luan Lazo, took on brilliant proportions.

Nano’s testament
Xhevat Mustafaraj has turned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs into a transactions office. Nano appointed him to the post of foreign minister not without irony and a certain mockery of him. After failing to win in the first parliamentary elections, he needed a place to be placed. Nano appointed to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a man who was not well formed professionally, let alone diplomatically. Nano also appointed him because of the submissiveness he had shown in certain cases toward his own boss. Nano had Mustafaraj as a continuation of degeneration, step after step, during the time when he was deputy foreign minister. Before thinking that it was enough to entrust him with a post, even as minister, there should have been an assessment of what he showed in his dealings with foreigners during the time of the “friends,” during the period of civil war and afterward. No one until now knows how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs created the most undignified man in its history. In the most recent trip to Germany, Mustafaraj displayed all his ignorance in the way he tried to take advantage. He asked the German government for 50,000 marks because of a competition. This sum was included in none of the amounts set aside to help Albania. Before competitions could be supported as such, the necessary groundwork first had to be prepared, all the way to planning. A foreign minister who enjoys the respect of foreigners, or at least some prestige, could not ask a government for money like a desperate beggar. It seems that Nano has long since transferred this ministry into a branch of the Ministry of Finance. Thus he has begun to ask for financial assistance in a beggar’s style even when he has nothing whatsoever to do with such a thing.
