The deals of restructuring
The spectacle of harsh words and dirty dealings between the Nano government and the KLA has entered a new phase, since last week Prime Minister Pandeli Majko made it more than clear that his government is preparing a restructuring. Among other things, he said there would be resignations and replacements in the cabinet. This announcement was interpreted with a dose of skepticism because Mr. Majko has previously warned of such a thing, but the truth is that this time his position seems more difficult than in previous cases. He has not only failed in practice in carrying out his duties as prime minister, but is also forced to pay the costs of the scandals involving President Meidani and the rivalries within the Socialist Party regarding the revenues generated by drug, fuel and cigarette smuggling.
The PDS is maintaining the same position regarding the government situation. It is demanding the removal of the Nano government as a criminal government, which is taking the country from failure to failure, from scandal to scandal. Its departure is a necessity because it has demonstrated not only incompetence but also involvement in political and economic crimes. Being such, it should have no chance and no time to further destroy the country. For this reason, the PDS insists on the need to create a technical government made up of specialists and people of integrity who will bring the country out of this situation.
If Mr. Nano is serious about restructuring, he should begin with the chief boss of smuggling and every shady deal. If he truly had good intentions for the country and genuinely wanted to make changes, he would first have to remove Mr. Meidani. Because this man is not merely a puppet president placed at the service of the Nano clan, but also part of the mafia system seeking to rule the country. He has been involved in affairs, silently or actively, and now he is seeking his own share in the power deals.
In this sense, the restructuring of the government is nothing more than another round of bargaining within the left in order to preserve positions and distribute responsibilities. Therefore Albanians should not be deceived by cosmetic changes. What is needed is a change in the political and moral course of governance.
