Murderers cannot condemn the victims

Yesterday’s ruler, called “Nukta,” was both eager and dominated at the same time; beyond continuing to ignore and force justice to acknowledge his own involvement and that of his subordinates in criminal activities at the beginning of this transition, he deemed it necessary to spend energy and precious time condemning the force that is opposing these injustices, with the clear aim of steering it toward a political conflict. As can be seen, the man who governs the country is far more interested in alarming the public than in finding institutional solutions to the unstable and conflictual situation into which he himself has dragged the country. The government’s latest stance in response to the statement by the highest institutions of the Democratic Party and the Catholic Church showed not only a total lack of wisdom and civility in public communication, but also an inability to understand the importance of the role of the opposition and of independent institutions in stabilizing the country. Instead of providing explanations for the events in Cërrik, for the unknown mass graves, for the threats against citizens and benefactors, he chose the language of insult and threat. At a time when Albania needs calm, justice and state responsibility, the government cannot be allowed to act as a party to the conflict rather than as guarantor of the law. Murderers cannot condemn the victims.

Compromising program of the European delegation’s visit

For 7 consecutive years, the delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe has requested a meeting with the Mayor of Tirana and with the municipal council. But today, the representatives of the Council of Europe will meet with the prime minister, and at the end of their day with the governor of the Bank of Albania. Following the US request for the creation of a bipartisan commission and the punishment of those responsible for Cërrik, the demand for respect for independent institutions is becoming an international standard of conduct for the Albanian state.
