Government officials, with bank accounts abroad
The Italian press sounds the alarm again: “Beware, Italy. Albania is in catastrophe.” Even the left is leaving Fatos Nano’s government
Rugova, between curses and greetings
Nano’s government is afraid for the country’s future, and that is why some of its figures have transferred stolen state money outside Albania. That is what the Italian newspaper “Corriere de la Sera” writes, citing diplomatic sources according to which the heavyweights of Fatos Nano’s government have opened numerous accounts in Swiss banks. Meanwhile, the left itself is leaving the government and the majority, by resigning. Yesterday the Italian newspapers also prominently published the resignation of the head of the Integration Commission in the Albanian parliament and well-known diplomat Pellumb Xhufi, who stepped down amid a loud row after disagreements with Prime Minister Nano. The large number of departures and resignations among Socialist government officials is creating uncertainty and causing serious concern in Italy.
The conversation between the President of the Republic and Mr. Rugova, who is spending several days in Tirana, took place in a very cordial atmosphere. Mr. Rugova, in addition to thanking the President for the hospitality and shelter provided in Albania, also stressed the need to find a peaceful solution for Kosovo. “I will return to Kosovo only when the Albanians there are calm and safe. Kosovo is going through a very difficult phase. The stance of the Albanian political factor must be measured and must be strongly supported by the international political factor. In these difficult days for Kosovo, the contribution of the Albanian government in support of the Kosovo issue has been weak, but I am convinced that the Albanians in Albania and the political forces here will know how to find the right path and help Kosovo,” Mr. Rugova said among other things.
On the other hand, the President of the Republic, thanking Mr. Rugova for the words and good wishes he conveyed to the Albanians of Albania, praised him highly as a representative of the people of Kosovo. “We are convinced that the peaceful path, also supported by the international community, will bring about a just solution to the Kosovo issue,” the President said.
Likewise, on page 2 there is an article entitled: “Rugova is greeted by thousands of people and cursed by the government.”
Italian Prime Minister Prodi, on the occasion of the ninth anniversary of the speculative “VEFA” project, designed to keep citizens fed with lies, declared that our country remains a hot spot in the region. Nano produced a bleak picture of the country’s situation. Many issues related to corruption and the theft of public property also remained unexplained. Italy and Europe are seeing Albania as a source of insecurity.
Italian Prime Minister Prodi said at [?] press conference: “We have also spoken extensively about Albania, and we have agreed that it should be an example of cooperation between Italy and Europe for its recovery”.
