The unions' performance is once again being played out today on stage and in protests with the participation of trade unionists and the whole citizenry, which has joined in for days. They are demanding the cancellation of the increase in electricity and fuel prices, the cancellation of the rent increase, university teachers are demanding implementation of the higher education law, organizations of invalids and former politically persecuted people the benefits they are entitled to by law, and war veterans to increase their pensions. Before today's protest begins, the government has decided to close the schools, but it has also done the same for the opposition rally on 8 March.

Today, a big rally in Skanderbeg Square
Today, on 26 May 1998, in Skanderbeg Square, "Union for Democracy" will organize the opposition protest. Students and high school graduates are also protesting against the decision to close the schools. Along with the protesters will also be the trade unions, associations of the persecuted, invalids and veterans.
All the roads leading to the center of Tirana will be filled with protesters. This protest is seen as a show of strength by the opposition and as a broad civic reaction to poverty and the crisis.
Cassation, the final blow to Justice
The judicial system has suffered a severe shock with the latest dismissal of four members of the Court of Cassation, who failed to pass the test of "loyalty" to the new order. Yesterday's decision by the High Council of Justice is not only an administrative act, but a direct blow to the independence of the judicial system. In a country where justice should be the last guarantee of the rule of law, it is being turned into a submissive instrument of power.
The removal of these judges raises serious questions about the criteria used, the transparency of the process, and the real aims hidden behind it. Instead of strengthening institutions and protecting professional integrity, fear and servility are being consolidated. This move does not affect only the names removed, but undermines citizens' trust in the courts and in the very idea of justice.
If this precedent continues, the consequences will be long-term: a subjugated justice system, an opposition without constitutional guarantees, and a society in which the law is interpreted according to the interests of the moment. Albania does not need courts that obey politics, but institutions that resist it.
