The Kosovo issue calls for the cooperation of everyone

Berisha meets the political leader of the KLA, Adem Demaçi Sali Berisha met yesterday with Dr. Jakup Krasniqi, the spokesman of the KLA, and the political leader Adem Demaçi. Berisha’s remarks regarding the conflict in Kosovo have found a particular interest on the KLA side and have led to a special understanding among its leaders. “Regarding the Kosovo issue and the situation in Albania, Sali Berisha shares the same opinion as we do,” said Adem Demaçi. He further stressed that he had spoken at length with Mr. Berisha and that they had reached agreement on many points. Dr. Berisha committed himself to follow the situation more closely and to provide the international political factor with the appropriate information about the tragedy and crisis in Kosovo and in Albania. With this new move, it seems that the politics and the new inspiration of the historic leader of the PD has given hope that this great resistance against the Serbian regime will be represented as well as possible politically and militarily. The lockdown of hope, the key issue of politics for '99

For Erlandin Xhaferri On the anniversary of the place where the killing took place, but also of the destruction of Albania by the group that seized power by force on 29 June 1997, we have the opportunity to remember not only the pain and terror of that period but also their political significance. An entire nation waited for the events of those days to bring about a historic turning point, a return of law and statehood, a new perspective for political and national life. But a large part of that hope remained frozen, while the truth about what happened began to be replaced by propaganda and distortion. These memories today are an appeal for responsibility and for bringing the country back onto the path of civilization. ON PAGE 5

Brojka: The government remains indifferent

The Mayor of Tirana addresses the serious situation in the capital “Why has this been done? Let the government issue a statement, let it not look at whether it cleans up or leaves water, whether it contaminates the roads. Why shouldn’t the government give an answer in writing and by phone?” ON PAGE 2

The government protects the killers of Azem Hajdari

Today, 121 days since the murder of the leader of December Today marks a full 121 days since the murder of the leader of December and one of the architects of Albanian democracy, Azem Hajdari. Albania is knocking on the doors of international institutions with this open wound in its heart. His killers have still not been found or punished; on the contrary, according to the opposition, they are being protected by the structures of power. This silence and this concealment of the truth are a grave accusation against the government. ON PAGE 7
