From that moment in the magazine “Shqiptari” in 1997 and later published in the traps and nightmares between Albania and the whole world, Kadare strongly underlined that “today Albania is not governed by virtuous and democratic people, but by an extortionist sector of a savage Bolshevik wing, which belongs to yesterday’s communist regime.” The struggle for political power and the confusion of all the links of Albanian society, the crisis of every value and every myth, the loss of faith in the future, the popularity of adventure, the flight of the elites, of professionalism and of vast experience, the degradation of the administration, police, army, secret service, economy, universities (especially scandalous in the latter case), the problems with neighbors, the loss of state authority over part of the population, unparalleled moral and intellectual chaos, the humiliation of political persecuted people and the middle classes, clan rule, etc., etc. These are the points where the thought of the great writer Ismail Kadare meets our analysis. The common ground between the two viewpoints convinces us that Albania is going through a great tragedy that cannot end without a painful and complete overthrow. Today, everyone saw it loud and clear. Albania is divided not into two provinces or regions, but into two mentalities, two worlds, two times. One modern Albania with Western values, with culture and democracy won through sacrifice and dedication, and another Albania, dark, primitive, violent, and devilish, with resentments and hatreds inherited from the darkest period of the past. It is precisely the second one that seems to have taken hold of the reins of the state and of evil today. And that is why the writer is sounding the alarm. ON PAGE 5
