The first failure for the political prosecution
After the accusations were completed by the Democratic Police, the investigators of the Prosecutor’s Office have managed to verify only the damage to an electrical socket, the theft of a jacket, damage to kiosks, and the insult of the Albanian prime minister. The former chairman of the SHIK Commission, Kërceshi, felt satisfied, while the head of Tirana police training remained passive. Pluralism is in danger and democracy threatened. After three years of “plotting” against the Albanian state, the Prosecutor’s Office has managed to organize the file in the most detailed way, gathering in sequence as evidence the breaking of a car window, the lighting of the hallway lamp in a house, throwing a stone at the glass of a door, and soiling the yard with eggs. According to the investigators, these are the acts that prove the scale of the August “coup d’état.” Meanwhile, the names of the arrested have passed through the sieve of witnesses and their movements around Tirana have been described in detail, from one café to another, from one office to another, from a family meeting to a visit to a pharmacy. The Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that one of them had a metal pen with him, another a black umbrella, and the third a spare apartment key. According to the file, these data create the picture of a fully fledged organization to seize power. In the absence of other evidence, the investigators have focused on the phone calls, where they found that the defendants used words such as “I’m coming,” “wait a moment,” “I’m on the road,” which, according to the official interpretation, constitutes suspicious code. Moreover, one of them is suspected of having drunk coffee without sugar, a sign of a radical temperament. The defense has described the charges as ridiculous, but the prosecution remains convinced it is on the trail of a dangerous scenario. The citizens in question, however, seem to have won a first round against this political undertaking, while public opinion awaits to learn whether justice will continue counting screws, glass panes, and random words as evidence of a conspiracy.
Albanian justice is moving with sure steps toward absurdity, building on ordinary incidents a gloomy theory of overthrowing the constitutional order. Instead of seriously investigating the real events and the concrete responsible parties, the prosecution’s energies have been concentrated on creating a file that survives only thanks to exaggerated interpretation and pompous language. This is the clearest sign of the first failure of the political prosecution.

The government protects the killers of Azem Hajdari
Today, 162 days after the killing of the right-wing leader
Today, 162 days will have passed since the killing of Azem Hajdari. The perpetrators of that tragic event and the direct killers have still not been brought before justice, while many names holding state posts have entered the circle of suspicion. In this climate of mistrust and public anger, the opposition and its supporters consider this state silence to be open protection for the perpetrators of the crime. Instead of the investigation moving forward, the public has been confronted with vague statements, procedural delays, and the avoidance of political responsibility. This has strengthened the belief that the government is not only failing to shed light on the event, but is protecting the killers of Azem Hajdari.
